DIRECTOR, CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, the Director of Corporate Responsibility (CR) will have a critical role in managing the strategy and implementation of Ionis' corporate responsibility and sustainability initiatives to magnify impact for internal and external stakeholders across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas. The Director of CR will lead Ionis' CR strategy, CR / ESG reporting and communications, and social impact workstreams. The leader will work with the executive CR Steering Committee and subject matter experts (SMEs) across Ionis on CR strategy and implementation of key areas of focus. They will work across the organization to influence on sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), responsible supply chain, and governance topics to drive measurable progress on Ionis' corporate responsibility goals. The Director of CR will manage the Senior Manager for Social Impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Corporate Responsibility and Strategic Leadership

Evolve strategy and implementation of Ionis' CR and sustainability efforts to align with Ionis' goals and business objectives
Assess potential CR and ESG risks and opportunities, develop strategies, and monitor emerging global trends and regulations
Partner with SVP of Corporate Affairs to lead the executive CR steering committee on the strategy, long term roadmap, metrics and benchmarks for ongoing CR performance
Serve as a thought leader and advocate for corporate responsibility internally and externally.
Prepare annual update for Board of Directors and CEO in collaboration with CR steering committee.

CR / ESG Reporting, Communications, and Compliance

Lead annual and ongoing reporting of CR and sustainability initiatives, collaborating with internal teams to produce accurate CR / ESG reporting, including producing annual CR Report and CR website / ESG hub

Develop materials for communication of CR initiatives to all internal and external audiences, working with internal / corporate communications to leverage appropriate channels for communication

Manage investor inquiries and submission of investor indices for CR, ESG, Sustainability including but not limited to MSCI, ISS, Sustainalytics, and others

Ensure compliance with ESG-related regulations and standards and develop internal controls for various global mandatory ESG-related reporting as they evolve

Environmental Sustainability

Collaborate with internal teams to support development and implementation of sustainability programs to manage Ionis' environmental impact areas (e.g. opportunities to integrate sustainable practices into operations, facilities, supply chain)

Partner with HSE to monitor and report on progress toward carbon reduction, waste management, and energy efficiency goals

Provide oversight for sustainability / ESG data management and associated internal controls for reporting

Social Impact

Oversee social impact strategy to ensure programs, initiatives, and partnerships align to and support social impact objectives and focus areas

Manage Senior Manager for Social Impact

Stakeholder Engagement

Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, investors, raters and rankers, community partners, and others to promote transparency, corporate responsibility, and sustainability and inspire confidence in Ionis' efforts

REQUIREMENTS :

BA or BS degree required, Master's degree preferred

Minimum of 10 years in corporate responsibility / sustainability / ESG and strategic communications, preferably within the biotech or related industry

Proven ability to develop and implement successful CR and communications strategies to drive performance and engage and inform stakeholders

Strong knowledge of sustainability principles, CR and reporting frameworks, and industry best practices

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience developing key messages, communications, and content across multiple channels

Strong analytical skills to utilize insights and data to inform strategies and measure outcomes

Experience managing and leading teams

Ability to manage and allocate budget effectively
