JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to provide legal secretarial and clerical support for the District Attorney’s Office and Corporation Counsel. The legal secretarial work performed to assist the professional legal staff requires individual judgement, initiative, and specialized knowledge in carrying out established procedures, and or applying laws, and or regulations; and, as needed could be assigned to perform related work.
DESCRIPTION
1. Appropriately apply specialized knowledge and legal terminology of the department.
2. Accurately record and/or transcribe correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other materials of a complex nature.
3. Review legal documents for accuracy and completeness.
4. Professionally compose and type letters from general oral or written instructions.
5. Independently and accurately compile data and prepare reports in compliance with departmental regulations and policies, statutes, and constitutional law.
6. Accurately type and compile legal briefs, civil and criminal complaints, Motions, orders and stipulations, affidavits, summons, subpoenas and other legal documents.
7. Prepare States Discovery Demands and reply to discovery demands as received.
8. Maintain a current and accurate calendar or record of appointments, meetings and other events pertaining to the department.
9. Maintain a current and accurate calendar of court hearings in open case files.
10. Assist attorneys in meeting statutory and court deadlines.
11. Research and/or assist in preparing legal brief preparation for the courts, and meet deadlines imposed by statute or court.
12. File legal pleadings and papers with the appropriate courts in a timely manner.
13. Receive payments, issue receipts, accurately account for all monies transactions and bank deposits.
14. Prepare annual departmental budget and meet assigned deadlines.
15. Prepare invoices for Discovery and follow-up as needed for payment.
16. Ensure accuracy and completeness of a variety of data to conform with established regulations and procedures.
17. Strictly maintain the confidentiality of departmental practices.
18. Accurately comply with complex oral and written instructions in the performance of the duties of the position.
19. Accurately and efficiently process incoming and outgoing mail.
20. Maintain storage areas of office supplies and order as needed and within budgeted guidelines.
21. Perform receptionist and/or counter duties in a professional manner, answering inquiries regarding departmental policies and regulations and services, or if appropriate refers inquiries to the proper official or department.
22. Must demonstrate regular and dependable attendance.
Demonstrated Experience and Skills Required.
· Ability to demonstrated professional oral communication skills with emphasis on knowledge and use of proper telephone etiquette.
· Ability to de demonstrated proficiency in the use and operation of a personal computer and Microsoft Office programs in a Windows environment, within a business or government office setting.
· Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the use of PROTECT and CCAP software.
· Demonstrated ability to be organized and a self-starter with a multi-task orientation and the ability to accurately complete all job tasks with minimal supervision.
· Ability to maintain the about matters not for public review.
· Ability to effectively work with all types of law enforcement agencies, public health agencies and court personnel.
· Ability to effectively resolve conflicts and handle difficult people related situations.
· Ability to adapt to and become proficient with changing technology and business practices.
· Ability to be organized and self-motivating; multi-task multiple assignments and to prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of an Associate’s Degree or Technical Degree in Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice or related field with two (2) years of increasingly varied and complex clerical experience including one (1) year of legal clerical experience in a court system or law office and/or the equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, experience and abilities may be considered for the position.

· Typical working environment is within a non-smoking temperature controlled office.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to operate office equipment such as multi-line telephones, copiers, facsimile machines, typewriters, personal computers, calculators, etc.
· Ability to exert very moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work activity, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.

Pay: $25.40 - $29.03 per hour
