What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pre Authorization Coordinator (Hybrid) position at Iowa Orthopaedic Center PC?
Iowa Orthopedic Center is actively seeking a Pre Authorization Coordinator to support orthopedic providers in delivering high-quality patient care. The Coordinator is a position which supports the overall service of clinics through assisting the Business Office in four primary components. Initially, the primary focus of the coordinator is to manage the process for required testing, such as MRI, CT, Injections, PCP Referrals, VA and Surgeries. The position will encompass attaining eligibility and documentation of future encounters so that the patient may be seen quickly and billing process to go smoothly. Being in the billing department allows for evolution of the position, which may encompass other visits, tests or procedures which require authorization or eligibility to be seen in our office.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work with insurance companies, Triage, Outpatient Testing, Surgery Scheduling, Financial Counseling, Coding, Billing and Work Comp departments as needed to fulfill pre authorization requirements.
- Verify eligibility/prior authorization requirements for Surgery, Pain Management, Outpatient Testing, EMG’s, MRI, CT, Injections, PCP referrals and VA patients.
- Stay current on pre authorization requirements for various insurance companies.
- Submit/Follow up with pre authorization requests.
- Research payer practices to ensure authorization is required and document if a test does not require authorization in the NexGen/Advantx systems.
- Update NexGen/Advantx with prior authorization numbers for billing.
- Document all insurance company encounters in a timely fashion. This must be done in such a way that verifies the authorization was attained properly, including the name of the person who authorized and the information given to the Coordinator.
- Strong attendance is required for this position due to timeliness requirements set by the payer and the need of the patient’s health
- Associates Degree plus one year of administrative or coordination experience in the medical field – OR –
- Three years of direct related experience to this position in the medical office / insurance field with a High School DiplomaX
- Excellent customer service skills serving members of the public over the phone
- Strong demonstrated time management and organizational skills
- Intermediate computer; strong internet explorer skills and internet research abilities using online payer platforms
- Intermediate 10-Key ability; intermediate typing and keyboarding skills to document calls currently in progress
- Ability to identify trends and notify appropriate resources for assistance
- Demonstrated excellent attendance is required
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language clearly and effectively
- Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to effectively communicate with a diverse group of people.
