Objective
The summer program assistant will be responsible for assisting or leading 4-H and youth activities in Butler County. This individual must be reliable, detail oriented, a problem-solver, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of teams of staff and volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Perform a key role in the organization, preparation and implementation of 4-H activities. Plays an important supporting role to the county youth coordinator and other staff as needed.
- Complete pre and post county fair tasks including preparation of fair materials, organizing and inventory of ribbons and awards, stall cards, fair livestock weigh-ins, show program prep, assisting with ribbon placing and preparing press releases, inputting Iowa State Fair entries, and more.
- Help organize and assist with activities which may include, but not limited to, the clothing event and communications day.
- Provide support to 4-H families on Fair Entry and requirements for animal and non-animal exhibits.
- Work independently to develop and facilitate 2-3 summer day camps for K-8th grade and assist with any additional day camps.
- Complete other office suppost tasks assigned including, but not limited to, organization of materials for upcoming programs, kid fest materials, havest bags, preparing state fair exhibits, office organization, and answering the phone as needed.
- Must be available during Butler County Fair--June 24th - 29th.
- Experience working with youth in formal or non-formal educational settings.
- Evidence of strong organizational skills, abilitiy to multi-task, strong written and oral communication skills.
- Computer literacy required (MS office, data entry, fluent with e-mail programs).
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Successful completion of background check.
- Experience with knowledge of ISU Extension and Outreach programs and 4-H.
- At least 1 year of post-secondary education completed.
