Objective
The summer assistant provides support to county staff in particular, the county youth coordinator, in the areas of programming, customer service, and public relations/marketing as it relates to summer camps, county fair and other related Extension and Outreach activities. This position is a temporary, part-time position that runs from approximately June 1 to the beginning of August 2025. The summer assistant reports to the County Youth Coordinator and is under the supervision of the Regional Director. What follows is the basic job description, other duties may be assigned. Job application, resume with three references, and cover letter and due by March 1st.
Duties
June:
Training for 4HOnline database and FairEntry systems
Assist with distribution of livestock entry information
Ribbon count and order
Coordinate comment writers (secure volunteers, mail confirmation information)
Set up judges’ boxes (inventory boxes, add needed items, make copies of forms)
Assist with pre-fair preparations (stall cards, judging sheets, other activities as needed)
Assist families with fair entry
Chaperone State 4-H Conference delegates if needed
July
Assist with fair (assist with static building set-up, entry and results; livestock check-in, shows and results; fair programs; livestock release; and other activities as needed)
Post-fair reporting and clean up
August
Assist with getting exhibits to State Fair
Throughout The Summer
Assist with Extension programs as needed
Assist with cleaning out storage and organizing programing materials
Cover office when staff have vacation, appointments and other programs
Qualifications

- Gathers and organizes camp materials
- Assists in delivering camp summer programming as needed
- Report any safety problems or issues immediately to County Youth Coordinator
- Aid in preparation for 2025 fair activities
- Accurately enter county fair data
- Assist with youth leadership activities
- Answer office phone and assist walk-in clientele as needed
- Provide educational opportunity with community partners

Qualifications
- H.S. graduate or equivalent.
- Good written, verbal, and customer relations communication skills.
- Knowledgeable about county fair classes and entries.
- Reliable and prompt.
- Able to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrates proficiency in basic computer and technology operation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend programming.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass the background screening to meet the Child Protection and Safety Policy.
- Currently enrolled in a higher education program working toward a degree in education, communication, agriculture, or related field preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development.

- This is a part-time non-exempt position. More hours are required during the fair week of July 8-13, 2025, when more hours will be expected.
- Hourly wage depending on experience.
- Employer’s share of Social Security and Medicare.
