Objective

This position assists the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Chickasaw County office primarily for 4-H & youth programs. It includes assisting with and promoting the 4-H and youth programs during the summer months. Some nights and weekends are required. This position is under the supervision of the County Director and is accountable to the Chickasaw County Extension Council and all of its policies.

Responsibilities

• Work as a team with all Extension staff, 4-H youth, and volunteers as needed
• Attend training and staff meetings as required by supervisor.
• Help to maintain a pleasant, cheerful, and helpful atmosphere in the office
• Maintain confidentiality with all staff and clients.
• Facilitate/teach summer programs with youth in Chickasaw County communities (i.e., day camps, 4-H workshops, and other activities as assigned)
• Submit records of program participation, program evaluations, etc. as required.
• Assist with Chickasaw County 4-H & FFA Achievement Show
• Help plan, organize, and prepare, including set-up/clean-up days.
• Maintain communications with 4-Hers, leaders, and parents.
• Design signs, flyers, and other documents
• Must be available to work July 8th – 14th, 2025 (Big 4 Fairgrounds, Nashua), including days for preparation and wrap up before and after
• Gather and prepare information to submit to media regarding programs, activities, and events.
• Help staff prepare for the 2025-2026 Clover Kids year.
• Other related duties deemed necessary to the success of Extension operations in Chickasaw County
  

Qualifications

• Some high school with preference given to high school seniors and college-aged applicants.
• Interest in working directly with youth and leading educational activities.
• Excellent organizational skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to effectively communicate with all age groups.
• Computer skills (including MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere with minimal supervision.
• Capable of coordinating volunteer efforts
• Conflict management skills, problem solving skills, and ability to multitask.
• Ability to complete scheduled tasks on time.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
• Employment contingent on successful screening in Child Protection Safety Program and a background check.
• Ability to lift 30 lbs. and reach 6 feet with aid of stepladder.

Additional Information

• Mileage for use of personal vehicle in the performance of approved duties will be paid at the current Chickasaw County travel allowance rate.
• Internship and College Credit: If enrolled in college and needing college credit, with prior approval, Extension Staff will cooperate with your institution to fill this need.
