Objective

To provide leadership and oversight of the county office and staff. Implements a county plan of work that focuses on stakeholder education and engagement. Serves as the council representative and face of Extension in the community on behalf of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the implementation and evaluation of research-based educational programming in the priority areas of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Community and Economic Development,Human Sciences, and K-12 Youth Outreach in Boone County.
• Respond to client requests for assistance in a timely manner.
• Write grants, as well as works with others to help secure resources (volunteers, contracts, grants, and donations) to support identified needs at county level, and to manage those resources once obtained.
• Develops local programming based on county needs with direction from the regional director and council.
• Builds community collaborations and serves as the face of ISU Extension and Outreach locally.
• Collaborate with program area specialists to develop educational opportunities based on county needs.
• Some travel required.
• Responsibilities with the County 4-H program and county fair.
• Report and evaluate the impact of programs as requested.
• Supervise and coordinate county paid employees and conducts day to day management, including facility needs.
• Other duties as determined in conjunction with the County Extension Council to meet the mission of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, in at least one field aligning with Extension subjects.
• 3 year’s work relevant experience, with evidence of supervising employees or volunteers.
• Evidence of volunteering and community involvement.
• Good written, oral and customer relations communication skills.
• Content knowledge in at least one field: agriculture and natural resources, human sciences, youth development, community and economic development.
• Pass a background check.
• Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Required to work outside of a normal work schedule, including nights and weekends.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Extension Education experience
• Coursework in education with experience in formal and/or non-formal teaching
• Experience working cooperatively with boards and diverse groups
  
  

Additional Information

Reports directly to and receives direction from the regional director with input from the county extension council
