Job Description: The Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology at Iowa State University is seeking qualified applicants for a Research Technician II. The Research Technician will oversee daily operations, facility maintenance, and animal husbandry in the Roy J. Carver Zebrafish facility. This position supports research laboratories at Iowa State that use zebrafish to model human development and disease and develop gene editing technology. Responsibilities include oversight of daily care and feeding of zebrafish lines, propagation of new generations of zebrafish lines, and zebrafish facility maintenance. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral). The candidate will have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. This is a term position with opportunity for renewal. Multiple positions are available. Example of Duties • Performs a variety of tests requiring a high degree of proficiency. • Collects, analyzes, and processes laboratory samples or research data. • Troubleshoots problems and recommends solutions. • Determines testing methods for non-standardized test. • Cleans, sanitizes, maintains, and operates lab equipment. • Assists scientists with research and record findings in the field or lab. • Maintains sample tracking.
