Position Overview:
The Iowa Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (IAUMC) is seeking a creative, organized, and self-starting Social Media and Content Specialist to join our Communications team. This role is responsible for managing IAUMC’s social media presence, curating and producing digital content, creating graphics, attending events, and ensuring consistent messaging aligned with the mission and vision of The United Methodist Church. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of both the digital communications landscape and United Methodist traditions and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute social media strategies that amplify the work of the Iowa Conference and its ministries.
- Curate, write, and edit engaging content for IAUMC platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and the conference website.
- Design visually compelling graphics for digital and print use.
- Attend key conference events and gatherings to capture and share real-time content.
- Take and edit high-quality photos and video content for storytelling and promotional use.
- Edit short-form video for social media and web platforms.
- Collaborate with conference leadership, local churches, and ministry partners to gather stories and highlight impactful ministries.
- Monitor engagement metrics and adjust strategy based on data insights.
- Proofread communications for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with denominational messaging.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across all platforms.
- Stay current on communication trends, especially within faith-based and nonprofit contexts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, graphic design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience managing social media accounts professionally.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency in graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar).
- Experience with photo and video editing software (Lightroom, Premiere Pro, iMovie, or similar).
- Organized and able to manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
- Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) is a plus.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating in a team environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel across Iowa for event coverage.
- Familiarity with The United Methodist Church is strongly preferred.
