Teach Literacy, Adult Basic Education, Vocational and/or High School Equivalency classes at the Clarinda Correctional Facility.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provide instruction to offenders in literacy, adult basic education, vocational training and/or HISET preparation as assignedAssess each new student for educational needs using formal tests (i.e. CASAS) and informal interviewDevelop and implement direct instruction curriculumOrientate new students to school rules and schedule into classesGive offender students direction in setting short and long-term educational goalsProvide student offenders with a variety of multi-level materials to help them obtain their educational goalsKeep accurate and up-to-date cumulative student records and testing information on each studentAdminister CASAS testing as deemed necessary to show growth or verify reading skillsAdminister HISET Practice tests to determine readiness for HISET testingCommunicate with student Offender’s counselors to alert to problems/successCoordinate with Special Education staff on needs of mainstreamed studentsRecord student attendance and maintain pay sheets for school workers and teacher aidesCooperate with staff/colleagues in planning and implementing educational activitiesAssist with the development of curriculum Keep records, supply reports/data, information or documentation as requested by the Education Coordinator or Department personnel Initiate the appropriate verbal/written reports as deemed by policy and procedures of CCF, IWCC, and DOCBe alert to and adhere to current custody and security policies and procedures of CCF, IWCC, and DOCSupervise the use, security and safe storage of all equipment and materialsTrain, schedule, and supervise offender teacher aides and educational aides Keep current with the trends and issues that affect the institution and teaching professionMaintain professional communication and decorum at all times Attend professional development workshops, staff development, and classes to sharpen teaching skills and maintain current teaching license Complete required DOC security trainingPerform other educational duties as deemed necessary by the Educational Coordinator
