Job Summary:
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Hematology, Chemistry, and Immunology testing areas. This role involves ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory testing, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and managing staff. The supervisor will also collaborate with healthcare professionals to support patient care and improve laboratory services.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision and Leadership:
- Lead and mentor laboratory staff, providing guidance and support in technical procedures and professional development.
- Schedule and assign tasks to laboratory personnel, ensuring optimal workflow and coverage.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA/COLA) and accreditation requirements.
- Develop, implement, and monitor quality control and quality assurance programs.
- Investigate and resolve any quality-related issues or non-conformities.
Operational Management:
- Perform and oversee daily laboratory operations for blood testing, ensuring timely and accurate testing.
- Manage inventory and supplies for the Hematology, Chemistry, and Immunology departments.
- Assist in budgeting and financial management for laboratory operations.
Technical Expertise:
- Maintain proficiency in laboratory testing procedures and protocols.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with laboratory equipment and testing processes.
- Stay updated on advancements in laboratory medicine and integrate new technologies as appropriate.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare staff to provide support and consultation on test results and clinical implications.
- Facilitate effective communication within the laboratory and with other departments.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss laboratory-related topics.
Training and Education:
- Provide training and orientation for new staff and students.
- Develop educational materials and conduct training sessions on laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- ASCP or equivalent certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with at least 1 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of hematology, chemistry, and immunology testing methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in laboratory information systems and electronic health records.
- Experience with laboratory test development/start up is a plus
Working Conditions:
- Primarily laboratory-based work with potential for some administrative duties.
- Schedule - Tuesday - Saturday 9:00 AM-5:30 PM
