We are seeking an Executive Director to direct IPM Institute’s programs and activities across our Sustainable Food Group, Sustainable Communities Group, IPM and Sustainability Certifications and Specialty Crops Consulting program areas. The IPM Institute of North America, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed in 1998. Our mission is to improve sustainability in agriculture and communities using the power of the marketplace.
Sustainable Food Group works with food companies across the supply chain to increase adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and other best practices in sustainable agriculture that reduce risks from pesticide use and improve soil health, water and air quality, and working conditions. Sustainable Communities Group programs provide science-based education, training and technical support to individuals and organizations with responsibilities for ensuring safe and effective pest and weed management in communities. Our certification programs provide credible market-based approaches to verifying adoption of best practices for IPM and pesticide use in agricultural and structural pest management. Specialty Crops Consulting programs offer producers on-farm technical assistance and training to implement IPM systems and mitigate pesticide risk associated with the production of specialty crops in the upper-Midwest and nationally.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate leader to work in accordance with the IPM Institute Board of Directors (BOD) to direct IPM Institute’s programs to promote IPM and accelerate adoption of sustainable practices in agriculture and communities. The successful candidate will:
- Report to the BOD to set and implement strategic direction and execute quarterly board meetings
- Direct development and operations
- Expand organizational impact by identifying and pursuing new opportunities, increasing our visibility and external awareness of our core competencies
- Successfully manage all financial aspects of the organization including ensuring cost-efficient operations
- Support funding and business development including identifying opportunities and new potential funders, collaborators and clients
- Lead a team of talented professionals including supervising and mentoring the leadership team (department directors, office management and HR)
- Oversee key client and vendor relationships
- Maintain and cultivate a productive, inclusive and positive work environment
- Ensure compliance with best practices and legal requirements
Required experience and qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a mission-driven organization, with at least five years of experience in a management or director role
- Strong enthusiasm for working with teams to develop and maintain sustainable
company culture
- Successful track record developing and directing impactful projects including setting and meeting budgets and managing staff and client relationships
- Successful track record in funding development, financial consistency and strategic planning
- Demonstrated ability to identify mission-related challenges and opportunities, envision positive change and work creatively to set strategies and achieve objectives
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, networking, advocacy and decision-making skills
- Highly motivated and self-directed
- Experience marketing new and long-standing programs and impacts
Preferred experience and qualifications
- Demonstrated experience leading a mission-driven organization, with at least ten years of experience in a management or director role
- Understanding and experience in agricultural systems and IPM
- Experience or familiarity with certification programs
Full-time position, salary $77,000 - $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience, with a competitive benefits package. Benefits include health, dental and optional life insurance, retirement plan, short and long-term disability, paid time off, paid sick leave and paid holidays. Located on the near east side of Madison. Seeking a candidate that can work primarily in-person from the Madison office, with potential for some remote work.
