As a Network Security Engineer, with a background in network engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing the security and compliance of our information systems, with a focus on network security. As a Network Security Engineer, with a background in network engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing the security and compliance of our information systems, with a focus on network security. Your role will require a blend of your previous network engineering experience and your knowledge of information security best practices to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our systems. You will be the subject matter expert in identifying vulnerabilities, implementing security measures, and ensuring adherence to relevant security regulations and standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of security controls for network infrastructure, ensuring compliance with security standards such as NIST, FISMA, and ISO 27001.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend solutions to mitigate risks.
- Monitor and evaluate network security and system logs for suspicious activity, ensuring timely responses to potential incidents.
- Ensure network security policies and procedures align with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with IT, cybersecurity teams, and external vendors to implement security patches, upgrades, and remediation of network vulnerabilities.
- Review and approve network-related security configurations, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs, and other network security tools.
- Assist in the development of disaster recovery and business continuity plans related to network infrastructure.
- Provide guidance and training on secure network practices to technical teams and end-users.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of system security plans, risk management frameworks, and security documentation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all network security-related incidents and investigations.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest security trends, threats, and compliance requirements in the network security field.
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
- Ability to obtain and maintain 8140 certification (CASP or CCSP or Cloud or CSSLP or GSEC)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Network Engineer, with hands-on experience in network configuration, troubleshooting, and security management.
- Proven experience as Network Security Engineer role, with a strong understanding of information security principles, risk management, compliance frameworks, and strong networking background.
- Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP), firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection systems, and other network security technologies.
- Experience with security tools and technologies such as SIEM, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint protection.
- Understanding of security standards and frameworks, including NIST 800-53, FISMA, and ISO 27001.
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Knowledge of ITIL and IT service management frameworks.
