Iredell-Statesville Schools- Lead Nurse Job Description
Coordinate School Nursing Services in compliance with medical and nursing standards to ensure safe and appropriate nursing practice
Provide professional management and direction for staff, as well as, community collaboration efforts
Perform strategic planning initiatives within school health, as well as, continuous quality improvement to maintain a current and relevant school health program
Have expertise in School Health with continuing education
Ensure federal, state and local policy rules and regulations are followed
Make decisions on the day to day operations of the School Health Department
Budget Oversight of the Healthy Kids Learn Better Fund, Lambda Mu Fund, as well as, the budget for supplies and continuing education for the nursing department
Plan, Schedule, and Conduct Regular School Nurse Meetings to ensure coordination of services and compliance of standards
Ensure completion of mandated health reports that are submitted to the Department of Public Instruction, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and other appropriate agencies, such as:
State Health Assessment and Immunization Reports (NCDPI)
Mid-Year and End of Year School Nursing Report (NCDHHS)
NC School Nurse Funding Initiative (NCDHHS)
Prevent Blindness Mid-Year and End of Year Reports
Healthy Active Children’s Report (NCDPI)
Ensure nurses are up to date with licensure and certification requirements
Conduct yearly evaluations of school nurses, as well as, biannual school walkthrough evaluations
Recruit/hire school nurses, as well as, coordinate orientation program
Advocate for Iredell-Statesville Schools Nurses and School Health
Coordinate Intern and Nursing School Rotations with Mitchell Community College, as well as, other universities in the area
Attend Regional and State School Nurse Supervisors meetings for updates
Assist with Policies and Procedures regarding School Health
School Health Liaison/Consultant for Iredell-Statesville Schools IEP and 504 Teams
Assist with Staff Wellness Programs (Health Fairs, Flu Shots, Fitness Programs)
Coordinate and Train ISS staff on Prevalent Health Issues
Coordinate System Wide First Responders (First Aid/CPR/AED) Program
Serve as Chair of the School Health Advisory Council, and serve on ISS Student Services Team, ISS Crisis Team, ISS Bloodborne Pathogen (OSHA) Committee, and ISS Administrative Team.
Serve as a health liaison for the district in the community as requested, such as: Safe Kids of Iredell, Healthy Carolinians, etc.
Other duties may be assigned based on need and as requested by Leadership of Student Services.
