Iron Horse Rail Services is seeking a hands-on, detail-driven Railcar Inspector / Estimator to oversee the inbound and outbound inspection of railcars and ensure all repair and quality standards are met. This role plays a critical part in maintaining safety, compliance, and efficiency within our railcar service operations.

What You’ll Do
- Inspect railcars for compliance with FRA, DOT, AAR, and customer standards.
- Manage railcar inspections from arrival to final release, ensuring quality control and adherence to procedures.
- Work within digital systems (computer or tablet) to create, update, and close out work orders.
- Analyze railcar condition and prepare cost estimates or repair proposals for internal and external review.
- Ensure repair standards align with Standard Repair Manuals, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
- Contribute to our strong safety culture, focus on quality, and operational efficiency.
- Split time between hands-on fieldwork and office-based planning, documentation, and communication.
- Collaborate across departments to support repair timelines and production goals.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED required. Technical training or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
- 3 years of railcar repair experience preferred.
- Knowledge of FRA regulations, AAR Interchange Rules, and railcar standards.
- Familiarity with MS Office, Google Suite, and comfort using tablets or computers in the field.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Mechanically inclined with a problem-solving mindset and a keen eye for detail.
- Valid driver’s license and vision correctable to 20/20 for inspections.
Bonus Qualifications
- Knowledge of welding processes (AWS/CW10).
- Experience or certifications in Nondestructive Testing methods (e.g., BT, VT, PT, UT, UTT, RVI).
- Ability to interpret technical documents, safety standards, repair manuals, and write reports or estimates.
- Strong math skills for measurements and cost estimating.
