Job Description
Title: 8th Grade Boys’ Basketball Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director, Principal, Superintendent
Employment Status: Part time
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License
- Teacher’s Certificate (preferred)
- Coaching and administrative abilities.
- Attendance at a Sports Medicine Credit In-service (preferred)
- Ability to relate to and inspire young athletes.
- Knowledge of the care of and for prevention of athletic injuries.
- Organization skills/resources to enhance the program.
- Skill in oral presentations.
- Able to get along with other coaches.
- Desire to invest time during and out of season.
- Knowledge of basketball with emphasis on fundamentals.
- Knowledge of training and conditioning techniques.
- Ability to diagnose player deficiencies/prescribe corrective activities.
General Description: To prepare a basketball team for interscholastic competition.
Essential Functions:
- Encourage students to participate in the program; select players, and managers.
- Shall be accountable for all players meeting necessary requirements pertaining to insurance, physical cards eligible forms and athletic waivers
- Account for the condition, inventory, distribution, and procurement of all equipment.
- Account for the procurement and distribution of all medical supplies and equipment.
- Account for assignment of lockers and the condition of the locker room.
- Account for the collection of all fees, if any.
- Instruct and assist players in the care and prevention of injuries.
- Attend rules interpretation meetings.
- Instruct players in the proper use of body building equipment.
- Schedule, plan, and conduct all practice sessions; develop scouting schedules.
- Accountable for player behavior during practice sessions, meetings, locker room activities, bus trips, and other activities.
- Evaluate game films; schedule and conduct meetings to discuss forthcoming opponents.
- Attend as many reserve and other (including middle school) games as possible.
- Contribute to public relations by providing information to local media, school newspapers, and other school publications.
- Cooperate with AD in the hiring of officials for practice scrimmages.
- Communicate with classroom teachers (if needed) to determine the achievement level of each player.
- Participate in Awards Program by distributing awards to the players.
- Instruct and supervise managers and statisticians in game and practice preparation.
- Account that all players meet necessary requirements pertaining to insurance, physical cards, eligible forms, and athletic waivers.
- Attend and participate in Athletic Booster Club Meetings; if possible.
- Evaluate players after each game and at the end of the season.
- Confirm transportation arrangements with transportation supervisor/director for trips concerning the team.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
- Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
- Conduct other duties related to the coach’s duties as assigned by the athletic director and/or superintendent.
Middle School Boys’ Basketball Coach:
This job description in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the position of Middle School Boys’ Basketball Coach. The Middle School Boys’ Basketball Coach will be required to follow the instructions and perform the duties required by the athletic director and/or the superintendent of schools.
