Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. This role is essential in ensuring accurate billing and coding for medical services, which is crucial for the financial health of our organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and the intricacies of medical records management. This candidate will also have experience with authorizations related to Workers Comp and managed care. This position is on-site.
Duties
- Review and analyze patient records to ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and DRG systems.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies for reimbursement, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and handle medical collections as necessary.
- Maintain organized medical records and ensure that all documentation is complete and accurate.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in patient information or coding.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations, coding guidelines, and insurance policies to ensure compliance.
- Assist in training new staff members on billing processes and coding standards as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in an outpatient physical therapy office setting with a focus on physical therapy and occupational therapy billing and coding, denials, appeals, ERA's, submitting claims, & processing payments timely and accurately.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding systems (ICD-10), DRG classifications, and billing procedures.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant software applications. WebPT and Therabill EMR background a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for reviewing complex patient records.
- Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and insurance representatives.
- Certification in Medical Billing or Coding is preferred but not required; relevant experience will be considered.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
