POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for overseeing the sourcing, purchasing, and acquisition of goods and services essential for the organization's operations. This role involves strategic planning, supplier management, negotiation, and ensuring efficient procurement processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Purchasing and Management
- Maintain and develop strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure reliable and high-quality supply of goods and services.
- Identifying potential strategic partners among suppliers and fostering long-term collaborations.
- Analyzing market trends and conducting market research to identify potential new suppliers, cost-saving opportunities, and innovative products or services.
- Developing sourcing strategies to optimize cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
- Implementing best practices in strategic sourcing, such as supplier consolidation, global sourcing, and risk management.
- Drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts with suppliers, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Monitoring contract performance and enforcing terms and conditions.
- Identifying opportunities for contract renegotiation or optimization to achieve cost savings or improve service levels.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders such as logistics, production, and inventory management to optimize the overall supply chain.
- Implementing inventory management strategies to minimize stockouts and excess inventory while maximizing inventory turnover.
- Identifying opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency and reduce costs throughout the supply chain.
- Assessing and mitigating risks associated with supply chain disruptions.
- Utilizing data analytics tools to analyze procurement data and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of procurement processes.
- Using data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Workforce Planning and Employment
- Verify all approvals have been acquired for purchases over the specified dollar amounts.
- Attending production meetings, as necessary.
- Participate in formal meetings to discuss plant issues and follow up on actions to be taken.
Training and Development
- Coach and mentor purchasing /receiving personnel through implementation of best practice techniques.
- Analyze potential excess and obsolete inventory items monthly.
- Analyze internal controls to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded and results are accurately reported.
- Assist in the completion of special projects as assigned.
Employee Relations
- Must have relationships with all levels of management and work on purchasing/manufacturing issues, business practices and strategic opportunities.
- Must have sound planning and organizational skills and be able to recommend, revise, develop, update, and effectively communicate activities to management and the plant to ensure that plant manufacturing and maintenance are practicing productive and efficient strategies in order to protect the company from negative financial risk.
- Must possess the ability to solve problems and collaborate with all plant departments to meet the needs of the company.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Logistics, Economics, or a related field (required).
Master’s degree (MBA or Master’s in Supply Chain Management) is preferred but not required.
Work Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience with purchasing; including negotiations, contracts, and cost reductions.
Certification: CPM, CSCP, CPP, CPSM a plus
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- International sourcing
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills to interact with all plant departments.
- Excellent communication skills written and verbal.
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office and financial software.
- Experience with MRO purchasing.
- Must practice good clerical/record keeping skills, accuracy, and show great attention to details.
- Must understand, maintain, and sustain the 5’s process.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- This position involves frequent (up to 5 hours per day) sitting and moving around an office and manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lift 35 lbs. comfortably.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to pick up parts as needed.
- Work will involve frequent operation of standard office equipment and a computer which requires repetitive typing motion and viewing a monitor.
