Morrow County School District has an opening for an Agriculture/CTE Teacher and FFA Advisor at Irrigon Jr/Sr High School in Irrigon, Oregon beginning with the 2025-26 school year. Proficincy in Horticuture and Shop Skills preferred. Candidate must possess or be able to obtain full Oregon licensure with proper endorsements, and must be Highly Qualified.  This position has 33 extended days in the contract.

Projected starting date August 4, 2025

Morrow County is located in rural north central Oregon, bordered on the north by the Columbia River and timbered by the Umatilla National Forest on the southern border. There are 9 campuses, approximately 2220 students and 320 staff.

The cover letter must include interest in the position as well as current licensure status information. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their application is complete. RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1.  Teach Agriculture Science and Technology classes.
  2.  Prepare teaching plans, demonstration plans, and teaching materials for all classes.
  3.  Prepare and evaluate teaching schedule, curriculum, and teaching calendars.
  4.  Conduct field trips, both in and out of district.
  5.  Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep record of the agriculture materials and equipment for classroom and laboratory.
  6.  Advise and evaluate students regarding Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs (SAEP’s).
  7.  Assist students with the planning and maintenance of SAEP’s.
  8.  Conduct site visits of SAE’s as recommended by the State department of Education.
  9.  Assist students in keeping SAE records at the local and state level on AET.
  10.  Be willing to serve as advisor for the FFA chapter.
  11.  Assist students in coordinating FFA activities at the local, district, state and national levels.
  12.  Prepare and train FFA and agriculture contest teams and entries.
  13.  Assist students in preparing applications for proficiency awards, state and American Degrees, etc.
  14.  Assist students in conducting a public relations program for the local FFA chapter and agriculture department.
  15.  Plan and attend evening activities including but not limited to: recruitment events, consulting committee meetings,   and  award ceremonies.
  16.  Be willing to obtain license endorsements for transportation of students.
  17.  Serve as liaison to the local FFA Alumni chapter.
  18.  Contribute to the preparation and tracking of the budget for the agriculture program each year.
  19.  Purchase supplies and equipment for the classroom and laboratory.
  20.  Cooperate in maintaining, planning, and improving the physical facilities.
  21.  Plan, coordinate and execute fundraising events.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. National FFA Organization (FFA)

FFA is an organization of students enrolled in agricultural education. FFA is an extended part of the agriculture curriculum. The primary aim of this organization is to develop agricultural leadership, cooperation, and citizenship. Activities of the vocational agricultural instructor in connection with the FFA include:

     a) Advise chapter officers and members in planning and conducting leadership training programs.

     b) Arrange transportation and provide supervision of FFA members at local, district and state FFA Activities.

     c) Aid FFA members in preparation for FFA competition.

     d) Supervise FFA fundraising activities.

 

2. Program Administration

Program administration is that portion of the instructor’s job that is not directly related to instruction or student activities. These non-instruction parts of the agriculture program include:

     a) Coordinate activities of the Agriculture Advisory Committee.

     b) Conduct community surveys and public relations activities.

     c) Complete State Department of Education reports.

     d) Conduct graduate placement and follow-up activities.

 

3. Community Relations

The agricultural education instructor is expected to cooperate with local agricultural agencies and farm organizations in promoting agricultural programs in the community and county. This may include:

     a) County Agriculture Extension Service

     b) Farm Bureau

     c) Local Granges

     d) Local Crop or Stockman Associations

     e) Morrow County Extension (a division of OSU)

     f) Morrow County Livestock Growers

 

4. Professional Improvement Activities

The instructor of CTE/Agricultural education is a professional and should follow closely the creed for the standards of ethics of teachers of agriculture. Professional activities should include:

     a) Attend the State Department of Educations Oregon Agriculture Teachers Summer Conference as coordinated with the             regional CTE consortium.

     b) Attend workshops in professional and technical development.

     c) Other professional development that is applicable to the position.

 

5. Summer Program Activities

All approved agriculture programs will be conducted on a year-round basis. Proper planning and practical use of the agriculture teacher’s time will be rewarding to the community. Every teacher will develop a list of activities they plan for the summer and allot time for each. This plan will be submitted to the principal by June 1 of each year. The Agriculture Instructor should confer with the school administration prior to June 1, to review the functions and duties as proposed in the summer program of activities. Year round effort is vital to a quality program of agriculture. Many activities that the teacher is expected to participate in are planned for this period of the year. Increased emphasis is placed on Supervised Educational individualized instruction during summer months. Some of the more important activities that the Agriculture Teacher should carry out during the summer months include:

     a) Follow-up former graduates of the agriculture program.

     b) Attend district, community and IMESD Agriculture Teacher Inservice Workshops.

     c) Attend FFA competitive activities, e.g., livestock and dairy judging, tractor driving, Ag Business Management.

     d) Arrange for exhibits of Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE)projects at local fairs.

     e) Coordinate leadership training for chapter Officers, e.g., leadership camps, officer retreat, committee planning efforts.

     f) Arrange for a FFA Chapter meeting and meet with the Chapter Executive Committee.

     g) Prepare requests for equipment, books, bulletins and other necessary supplies not already ordered.

     h) Update teaching materials and prepare lesson plans for next school year.

     i) Plan field trips and activities for the school year.

     j) Meet with the agriculture advisory committee, if assembled.
