PRIMARY PURPOSE: Colorguard instructors will provide quality instruction to high school students enrolled in the colorguard program. Direct and manage the overall high school colorguard program. Colorguard instructors will report directly to the head high school band director to whom he/she is assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Education/Certification: 

High school degree or GED. Prefered Associate Degree or two years of higher education.

 

            Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of overall operation of color guard program and competition structure.
  • Ability to design and provide crative input toward the implementation of color guard performances, including equipment performances (i.e.flag, sabre and rifle).
  • Provide choreography and musical design for shows and performances
  • Knowledge of State and UIL policies governing colorguard
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

 

 

Minimum Experience

    Previous colorguard experience

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Direct colorguard performers in marching band, Winter and Spring indoor competitions
  2. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with campus administrator, band directors, band members and all band staff
  3. Instruct and prepare colorguard students for all marching band performances through creative design, choreography and implementation.
  4. Oversee process of cleaning, repairing and storing of equipment.
  5. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  6. Establish and maintain open communicaton by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers.

            none

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing: need to move about the classroom or campus to monitor students as necessary. Occational light lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds. Envionment: may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:   Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

 

Safety:  Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
