Overview: Irving Knight Group are partnered with a global shipping company, looking to onboard an Associate Legal Counsel in Virginia.
Title: Associate Counsel
Location: Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States
Salary: $130,000 Base Salary (Experience dependent)
Responsibilities
- Offer legal guidance and support regarding U.S. laws and regulations to our client and its entities.
- Collaborate with the General Counsel and Vice President on compliance tasks, including training and internal investigations.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda.
- Supervise the insurance team, comprising claims analysts and unclaimed cargo analysts.
- Evaluate and manage complex cargo, property, and personal injury claims within the Area.
- Provide in-house assistance to external counsel during litigation proceedings.
- Aid in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with external stakeholders, while coordinating with Headquarters and other parties.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school (or other common law – based equivalent).
- Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction and eligible for Corporate Counsel admission in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Minimum 5 years in maritime law & claims experience in shipping or freight forwarding companies.
- Minimum 2 years managerial experience within the transportation industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience
