Summary
Specification and procurement of Instrumentation for large frame Gas Turbines.
Creation and maintenance of all supporting Instrument documentation.
Maintenance of Gas Turbine Control Logic documentation.
Support Project Engineering in addressing all Customer GT instrumentation and control logic questions.
Training and mentoring of junior Engineers.
Bid assessment and support for new gas turbine builds.
Bid assessment and support for new DCS installations.
Support Instrumentation & Controls Design for new Product Development, Modular Design for Gas Turbine, and applying cost down methods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Training and mentoring of junior Engineers.
Determination of Customer Instrumentation and Control contract requirements and delivery dates.
Creation of Instrumentation procurement schedule.
Creation of Instrument technical specifications and Request for Quotes.
Verification of Supplier quotes.
Verification of all instrumentation against system P&IDs and Instrument list creation.
Instrument loop creation and maintenance.
Data sheet creation for instrumentation.
Drawing creation for instrumentation.
Responsible for all design input documents needed in the creation of an I/O list.
Maintenance of GT control logic and Graphic screens
Resolution of customer comments on all responsible drawings.
Creation and maintenance of I&C procedures and checklists.
Collaborating with design engineers, operations engineers, purchasers, sales & marketing and other internal staff.
Liaising with clients, suppliers, contractors, project management and other relevant authorities within cost and time constrained environments.
Troubleshooting and problem solving at various project sites.
Understanding and ensuring compliance with the technical standards of the country in which work is undertaken.
Interpret and apply applicable codes like ISA, ANSI/NEMA, NFPA, AGA, etc.
New Vendor qualification if required.
Establish and document standard design processes and products.
Simplify product designs for improved manufacturability and reduce cost without compromising product quality and function.
Develop schedules, coordinate and manage projects of all sizes with minimal supervision.
Meet regularly with vendors and ensure that all technical and schedule requirements are met.
Utilize SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) to design the instruments database. Successfully develop wiring diagrams, cable schedules, cable lists, Instrument lists/data sheets/index and other I&C documents best suited for extraction from a database type tool like SPI. Experience with similar database driven software will also be considered.
Utilize SmartPlant 3D (S3D) to design the instrumentation and control system to successfully develop instrument location and placement plans, equipment layouts, elevation drawings, instrument tubing arrangements, hazardous area classifications, and other necessary documents best suited for extraction from a database/3D type tool like S3D. Experience with similar database driven 3D software will also be considered.
Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for instrumentation if required.
When necessary supporting Field Operations in performing on-site installation of instrumentation.
Provide start-up commissioning, operations and/or troubleshooting support for equipment failures and determine root cause analysis and implement solutions.
Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures reporting all unsafe activities to Management and/or Human Resources.
Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
Protect confidential information by not communicating, disclosing to, or using for the benefit of 3rd parties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Education
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering from four-year College or university; and at least (8) years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in specific I&C disciplines as applicable to power plants.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software, electronic mail, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, PDF editor, etc.
