Position Court Officer -Armed FLSA Status Non-Exempt
Department Trial Court Pay Grade 9
GENERAL SUMMARY
Ensures the safety and security as well as a level of decorum of all Court users including inmates of the jail and employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Ensures building security, including monitoring security cameras, operating x-ray machine, magnetometer and hand-held wand, identifying weapons or contraband, analyzing X-ray images and performing personal searches.
- Provides constant courtroom security, including escorting inmates to and from jail to Court, searching courtrooms/hearing rooms.
- Check in and provide for juror security.
- Patrols hallways and Court grounds, assisting patrons as needed.
- Writes incident reports as necessary.
- Monitors fire and Court alarm systems, assuring that both are operable. Informs proper authority if any machinery, locks, alarm or computer is need of repair or replacement.
- Conducts regular interior and exterior perimeter checks looking for foreign, suspicious or unusual behaviors or objects that are prohibited or may jeopardize security.
- Directs the public to the proper area within the Court or to other government buildings in the county.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) to three (3) years of corrections, security and/or law enforcement experience.
Position: Court Officer
Licenses or Certifications
- Firearms qualification.
- CPR/First Aid certification.

- Some college coursework completed.
