What are the responsibilities and job description for the VOLUNTEER SHERIFF MOUNTED PATROL position at Isanti County?
Isanti County is seeking volunteer Mounted Patrol Officers.
While working in a volunteer position, the incumbent is in an unpaid role and is not eligible for County paid benefits.
The Mounted Patrol provides on-call assistance to law enforcement and patrols public use areas, such as County Parks. The Mounted Patrol also has a presence in public events around the County, as requested by the Sheriff’s Department.
Horses used in the Mounted Patrol must be certified, and certification must be renewed once every five calendar years. Certification is conducted by approved members and includes a variety of tests, temperament assessment, and general review of owner/equine handling skills.
All horses must have a current Coggins filed with the Sheriff’s Department annually.
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Reliable truck and trailer to haul your horse to calls and events.
- Successful completion of an appropriate-level background investigation.
- Successful completion of equine certification.
- Being above reproach, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, be free from addiction to alcohol or other drugs.
- Must live within 20 miles of the Isanti County line.

- Must own a smart phone for paging purposes.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMTION:
A fully completed Isanti County application must be received by Human Resources.
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a background investigation including a criminal history search. Costs of the background will be paid for by Isanti County.
