Position Overview
The Academic College Counselor will provide guidance and support to students in their academic journey by helping them navigate their high school personal graduation plan (PGP), college admissions, course selection, and career planning. This role involves working closely with students, parents, and local community college to foster a supportive educational environment and empower students to achieve their academic and personal goals.
Key Responsibilities
Counseling and Guidance
- Assist students in understanding college admission requirements and processes.
- Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to students regarding academic pathways, college selection, college enrollment and career opportunities.
- Offer support in developing academic plans and setting achievable goals.
Academic Support
- Monitor student progress and provide interventions for academic improvement.
- Collaborate with teachers and faculty to address student needs and enhance academic performance.
- Organize workshops and seminars on study skills, time management, and college readiness.
College Admissions
- Guide students through the college application process, including essay writing, interview preparation, and selecting appropriate institutions.
- Stay informed about college trends, admissions criteria, and scholarship opportunities.
Career Planning
- Assist students in exploring career options and developing career readiness skills.
- Facilitate internships and job shadowing opportunities.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and opportunities.
- Collaborate with school staff and local community college to create a supportive network for students.
Record Keeping and Reporting
- Maintain accurate student grades, transcripts, meetings and progress.
- Prepare reports on counseling activities, student achievement, and program effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience in academic advising or counseling in a college or high school setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of college admissions processes and career development resources.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and educational staff.

- Proficiency in using technology for counseling and advising purposes.

Salary : $60,000 - $65,000
