Position Summary
The Front Office Coordinator acts as the first point of contact for Island Doctors. The Front Office Coordinator attends to patients on the phone and in person, coordinates and organizes appointments and documentation to facilitate the smooth running of the healthcare environment and support delivery of quality patient care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Greet patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone in a professional manner
- Assist patients with questions or refer questions to appropriate person in the office.
- Answer incoming calls and triage calls appropriately to clinical staff and other key personnel as necessary.
- Optimize patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone. Confirm appointments the day prior.
- Create new patient charts by collecting demographic information, insurance cards, photo IDs, and completed new patient forms. Update established patient charts by verifying the information on file is current.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits using online tools provider by the payors.
- Collect copays due at the time of service. Advise and collect on patient balances due.
- Post charges from visit according to providers record of treatment, adhering to coding education provided by MRA team, and following Federal, State, and payor specific guidelines.
- Record daily totals such as Weight Loss, Provider totals, and copays collected; balance these totals against the Day Sheets.
- Ensure faxes are placed on the patient chart for provider review in a timely manner. File charts alphabetically by the end of the day.
- Provide general information about Humana’s products and value to Medicare patients. Work with Marketing team and Humana Representatives on recruitment initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1 years of medical office experience required
- Strong customer service skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Dedication to maintaining confidentiality of all patient records
