What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Director of Human Resources position at Island Hospitality Management-Corporate Office?
Island Hospitality Management is actively seeking a Regional Human Resources Director to lead, manage and champion the culture of the hotels and IHM in assigned region. The ideal candidate for this position will plan, develop, coordinate and direct the Human Resource function at the hotels to attract, retain, develop and motivate employees in a cost-effective manner in accordance with franchise policies, procedures, federal, state and local laws and regulations while limiting liabilities and promoting a safe, fair, positive work environment. This high impact team member will develop and recommend the hotels’ human resource objectives.
This position may require flexible scheduling availability.

- Plan and manage orientation processes to meet all SOPs, federal, state & local laws & regulations.
- Position the hotels as the "preferred employer" in the area.
- Counsel and train managers on employee relations issues, resolve employee grievances, and examine all exit interviews for trends, implement various employee relations programs to maintain a pro-employee environment that ultimately limits turnover. Advocate & actively ensure the Guarantee of Fair Treatment through regular monitoring of the employee relations climate.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures along with state, federal and local laws and regulations as they pertain to every facet of Human Resources/Employer related functions, including all wage and hour. Audit wage and hour records at each hotel on a regular basis.
- Train the Trainer GM quarterly Best Practices/Lessons Learned; help GM to attract, retain and motivate staff, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, salary & market reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication, discipline and terminate as appropriate.
- Visit hotels as needed for investigations, relationship-building, training, acquisitions, etc.
- Ensure Field Leadership is proactively executing a positive culture and are responding with a sense of urgency to any employee issues.
- Conduct orientation HR sessions for all new department managers.
- Conduct investigation of all employee relations issues.
- Assess needs of and then plan, implement and coordinate management, hourly and supervisory training programs with VP approval.
- Manage unemployment compensation programs, legal claims and represent the hotels at various hearings.
- Support seasonal hiring including J-1 visa programs.
- Ensure proper maintenance of employee records, files and Human Resource office systems. Manage the compilation and analyze various corporate reports and property reports to provide management with accurate information and comply with corporate policies and procedures as well as government laws and regulations. Audit Wage & Hour records on a regular basis.
- Ensure all employee relations activities are administered consistently and in a timely manner.
- Review and track EE relations events. Monthly lunches, housekeeping, appreciation week, T.M of the quarter nominations, etc.
- Notify GM/RVP of any potential for liability and propose proper course of action to prevent the hotels from incurring any such liability.
- Annual Opinion Survey follow-up. Ensure plan completed on time. Measure results.
Job Qualifications:
- Education: Four-year college degree or equivalent/education experience.
- Experience: Experience is required with this company or other organization(s) for four to five years of employment in a human resources or related position.
- Must have basic PC knowledge, ability to write and communicate professionally in terms of the ability to negotiate, convince, sell and influence managers and employees. Bi-lingual fluency a plus.
- Must be hospitality oriented and possess the ability to work under pressure. Experience in hospitality industry a plus.
- SHRM or HRCI certification a plus.
- Should possess the ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Travel required: Occasionally for recruitment, training, investigation and task force purposes. Average of 10%.
- Hours Required:40 to 50 hours over a five-day period; days and times may vary based on need.
