POSITION SUMMARY The District Mechanical Systems, Boilers and Hydronic System Technician takes primary responsibility for the proper maintenance and repairs to mechanical systems, boilers and hydronic systems throughout the District to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of those systems. They will be primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair, preventive maintenance and winterization of school district central mechanical systems to include the boilers, pumps and all hydronic systems and components associated with those systems, as well as the appropriate documentation of work performed. They must also be able to perform other basic maintenance or plumbing duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Demonstrate knowledge of mechanical systems, boilers, hydronic systems, septic systems and storm systems.
· Repair, maintain, and provide preventive maintenance and appropriate associated documentation of those actions for the district hydronic systems and related components to include all pumps, valves, air bleeders and controls.
· Repair, maintain, and provide preventive maintenance and associated documentation of those actions for the district’s natural gas and electric boilers to include combustion and amperage readings and the testing of safety devices.
· Repair, maintain, provide preventive maintenance and winterization of, and provide all associated documentation of those actions for the district’s cooling towers to include associated pumps, heating elements, filters, heat exchangers.
· Respond to emergency requests in a timely, organized and professional manner.
· Advise the Maintenance Supervisor on matters concerning mechanical systems, boilers and hydronic systems and all associated maintenance, preventive maintenance and associated problems, corrective actions required and taken, and all associated documentation for such action and referencing those systems.
· Attend outside training sessions and seminars related mechanical systems, boilers and hydronic systems in order to keep knowledge current.
· Work cooperatively with Capital Projects to review plans for new facilities or resolve existing design problems.
· Completely and accurately document all preventive maintenance, maintenance, winterization, and repairs in a timely manner using the district’s maintenance management system.
· Respond to after hour emergencies when requested.
· Fill in as a District Plumber as needed
· Complete testing and servicing of the district’s backflow devices.
· As appropriate, use required tools in a safe manner.
· Possess knowledge of and adhere to Governing Policies and District Regulations and Procedures.
· Participate in special projects as assigned and perform related duties and key responsibilities consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
· Physical stamina and skill to work efficiently and safely with hand tools, power tools and vehicles as necessary to complete assigned duties. Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis and climb ladders to twenty (20) feet.
· Demonstrate initiative and self-motivation with the ability to manage multiple tasks and develop appropriate priorities.
· Ability and willingness to take direction and work with minimal supervision.
· Possess and utilize good reading, written, and oral communication skills.
EXPERIENCE: At least two (2) years’ experience operating and repairing boilers and mechanical heating and cooling systems in a commercial or school building environment.
· Possess or obtain certification within six (6) months for operating man lifts.
· Possess or obtain certification within six (6) months for testing and repairing backflow devices.
· Possess or obtain boiler operator certification within twelve (12) months of initiation of certification or licensing program as approved by the Maintenance Supervisor.
· Experience with holding tank septic systems.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: A valid Washington State Driver’s License with a good driving record and appropriate insurance required. Certification for operating man lifts. Certification for Backflows. Certification for boilers. Must maintain as current any certification or license listed herein and held at hire date or earned as a condition of hiring.
CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING: That which is necessary to maintain certification, licenses, and knowledge as current and as appropriate.
