Position: Clinical Engineer, Technology Planning
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for clinical technology assessment and planning. Assesses new and emerging technology and its application to clinical care needs. Evaluates existing technology for service obsolescence and develops technology replacement plans. Designs technical solutions to clinical problems. Performs problem analysis, program development, testing, documentation, and implementation. Performs project management and coordination functions. Provides and promotes a technical environment which will maximize the productivity of the clinical technology planning team while minimizing cost and organizational impact.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides fast and responsive support for medical equipment planning
- Create clinical technology assessment reports and equipment replacement plans
- Provides reports that guide and facilitate prudent clinical equipment planning decisions. These reports may include comparisons of technical features, user experience, available options, maintenance requirements, technology life-cycle status, and impact on design, operations and staffing.
- Participate in the evaluation of new clinical hardware and software product and upgrades
- Provide technical oversight and support for setup and implementation of interfaces between the clinical systems and required peripheral instruments, monitors, or other information systems platforms
- Attend equipment planning user meetings and coordinate vital equipment information among architectural, clinical, planning, biomedical engineering, administrative, facility, engineering, and construction staff. Integrate clinical and operational needs with design concepts and technology trends to determine the optimum equipment mix
- Work closely with architects and engineers to coordinate space and utility requirements
- Serve as a liaison to vendor support personnel as needed by CE personnel
- Facilitate and assists with determining and implementing programs and procedures to analyze resource utilization and support planning activities
- Lead staff meetings to facilitate technical and administrative knowledge sharing
- Prepare project plans and estimates as necessary
- Work with clinical engineering management to develop and implement equipment replacement strategies
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of departmental and service line business processes and workflows
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. degree in biomedical, clinical, electrical engineering or equivalent experience. M.S. degree preferred
- Must have at least 5 years (or 2 years with Master’s degree) clinical engineering experience.
- Certified Clinical or Professional Engineer is strongly desired.
