JOB DESCRIPTION

The Vice President of People Operations is a mission-driven, dynamic, inspirational, and collaborative senior leader of Italian Home for Children. The VP is accountable for the effective operations of the human resources and training department. The VP of People Operations is action-oriented and a true partner to program leadership by promoting organizational culture, tracking progress with measurable key performance indicators, managing risk, streamlining systems and policies, and negotiating benefits. The VP has extensive knowledge in employee relations, labor laws, and progressive disciplinary processes and policies. The VP has integrity, possesses experience and knowledge of all human resource functions, and accelerates the advancement of the departments and best practices. The VP leverages technology to ensure compliance, tracking, and assessment of the quality of training provided. The VP demonstrates a willingness to try new strategies, strong interpersonal skills, professional and clear presentation skills, and superb attention to detail. The VP must use discretion when handling sensitive issues and must always have the organization’s best interest at top of mind.

 

The VP of People Operations reports to the Chief Executive Officer and directly supervises 3-5 employees. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the VP of People Operations promotes the mission, vision, and values of IHC taking opportunities and creating avenues to integrate agency values into the IHC community and culture. Internally, the VP of People Operations inspires staff, instills loyalty, pride, and passion for working at IHC, and recognizes hard work and creativity. This is a Full-Time hybrid position with two days remote and three days on Jamaica Plain campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILTIES


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  •         Develop and implement annual department operations plan to align with agency strategic plan and drive organizational change
  •         Translate organizational strategy and budget into meaningful and relevant recruitment, retention, and professional development initiatives
  •         Oversee and provide hands-on support of People Operations team including tracking individual key performance indicators and performance goals
  •         Plan and execute superior data tracking and analysis regarding recruitment, retention, and training efforts
  •         Oversee the onboarding process and ensure a high-quality, inspiring, and comprehensive orientation for all new hires as informed by Director of Quality and Program Senior Leaders regarding required training standards from all funders/licensors/accreditors
  •         Utilize agency mission, vision, values, and strategic plan throughout correspondence with stakeholders
  •         Maintain updated and accurate employee handbook and track annual attestations of all staff
  •         Solicit employee feedback through stay and exit interviews and provide summary or specific feedback to senior leadership regarding retention strategies, benefits, and company culture
  •         Contribute informed recommendations regarding compensation and benefits to management after performing market analysis
  •         Organize and collaborate regarding staff appreciation annual events and other activities
  •         Develop, implement, and disseminate human resource related policies and procedures
  •         Manage and oversee employee relations and manage risk
  •         Process, research, and collaborate with legal team around complaints of serious nature
  •         Interact with employees and vendors with professionalism and prompt response to inquiries
  •         Interpret and ensure compliance with all federal and state employment law
  •         Contribute to resolution of payroll matters with Finance department
  •         Oversee and manage members of the People Operations Department including evaluating performance and completing written evaluations per agency policies
  •         Rewrite job descriptions as necessary in collaboration with program management
  •         Lead performance management training and coach managers on written and verbal evaluations
  •         Communicate annual performance evaluation timeframe, monitor the completion of evaluations, and ensure presence of evaluations in employee files by due dates
  •         Streamline human resource systems and optimize Human Resource Information System
  •         Oversee and ensure that onboarding and annual trainings are accessible through HRIS system and move the agency into a high-quality virtual learning platform when appropriate
  •         Ensure personnel files are complete and accurate with comprehensive tracking of annual trainings required all funders and regulators as determined by Director of Quality Management
  •         Draft agency-wide correspondences for executive team to review then disseminate to employees
  •         Attend fundraising events and board meetings; attend board committees when necessary
  •         Plan and execute yearly senior leadership retreat
  •         Conduct staff engagement surveys and stay and exit interviews
  •         Develop content for company intranet page and lead agency announcements
  •         Oversee communication plan and recognition calendar as well as internal newsletter and announcements
  •         Participate in trade association meetings and create relationships with peers from like agencies
  •         Review contracts related to People Operations Department
  •         Monitor IHC presence on workforce social media sites and job platforms
  •         Create and execute new hire mentorship program
  •         Participate in Wellness Committee

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  •         Undergraduate degree in Human Resource Management or related area and Human Resources certification (SHRM or other accredited certificate program) strongly preferred
  •         Minimum of 5 years progressive management experience in Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience; two or more years at senior level preferred
  •         Experience in nonprofit/human service industry strongly preferred
  •         Ability to motivate staff to be flexible and tolerant of change environment
  •         Extreme flexibility and adaptability with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate broad responsibilities and shifting priorities
  •        Exceptional communication and influencing skills; persuasive, credible, and polished communicator both written and verbal
  •        Creative, independent, and strategic thinker
  •        Mission-driven and self-directed individual with demonstrated passion for Italian Home for Children’s values and treatment philosophy
