Job Description:
The Lead Business Systems Analyst is responsible for managing and leading the requirements gathering, ticket development, and refinement processes for business and technical initiatives. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams, including product managers, developers, third-party teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure that all business requirements are understood, documented, and executed effectively. The Lead Business Systems Analyst is also focused on process improvement, test plan review, and operations support, while ensuring alignment with best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Requirements Management:
- Understand and gather all requirements associated with new EPICs or initiatives.
- Collaborate with Product Manager/Owner and Senior Developers/Leads to document requirements for specific initiatives or EPICs.
- Develop and maintain functional specifications or How to Use This Feature documentation, when applicable.
- Lead and manage requirements gathering sessions, ensuring all stakeholder needs are addressed.
Ticket Development & Refinement:
- Create and refine detailed User Stories aligned with High-Level Requirements noted in the associated EPIC.
- Refine Stories to include the necessary details for the full scrum team to take action.
- Elicit and document ticket dependencies, ensuring proper tagging and capturing in the Dependency Huddle board.
- Ensure all stories meet the agreed "Definition of Ready" before being included in sprint planning sessions.
- Analyze and refine critical tickets brought in mid-sprint to mitigate risks and resolve issues.
- Contribute to work estimates during sprint planning to ensure effective planning and execution.
- Maintain a healthy backlog that is consistent with agreed-upon targets for FLOW (2 sprints ahead).
- Lead the ticket refinement process, ensuring alignment across all teams.
Partnering with Third-Party Teams (Internal/External):
- Facilitate communication and collaboration with teams outside of FLOW, ensuring necessary tickets are created to address requirements.
- Lead meetings with third parties to ensure work progresses to meet overall EPIC or project timelines.
- Resolve blockers and escalate issues as necessary to maintain progress.
- Ensure the closure of any outstanding issues post-go-live as prioritized by the Product Manager/Owner, such as creating How-To documents.
Process Improvement:
- Promote continual process improvement and foster an environment of experimentation and new practice trials.
- Ensure consistency with FLOW common practices.
- Lead or contribute to Process Improvement activities in line with the PI roadmap and other plans.
- Collaborate with peer Business Analysts to share lessons learned, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Test Plan Review:
- Review test plans to ensure acceptance criteria are clearly outlined and can be linked back to requirements.
- Support the validation of test cases to ensure alignment with business and technical requirements.
Operations Support:
- Ensure third-party information is up-to-date, including scheduled maintenance windows and planned outages.
- Maintain up-to-date third-party contact/issue resolution information.
Quarterly Planning:
- Review initial Business and Technical EPIC requirements as part of pre-planning.
- Analyze platform functionality and facilitate discussions with UX, Engineering, and external teams (CoE, SRE, Analytics) to determine solution requirements, dependencies, and risks.
- Communicate findings to the Product Manager and support the updating of EPIC details and creation of user stories.
- Provide QA and Engineering teams with necessary analysis to support accurate Level of Effort (LOE) estimates.
- Clarify and confirm assumptions with SMEs or conduct necessary analysis to validate business requirements.
- Assist the Scrum Master in creating intake requests for external teams, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- 10 years of experience in business systems analysis, data engineering, or related roles.
- Strong understanding of Anaplan model design, implementation, and maintenance.
- Expertise in data architecture, modeling, integration, and ETL processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the retail domain and experience working with retail data systems.
- Understanding of data governance and data security best practices.
- Familiarity with machine learning and data analytics tools.
- Ability to work effectively in an agile development environment.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, with a preference for AWS.
- Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration, aligning both business and technical teams.
Preferred Skills:
- Retail domain knowledge with experience in retail data systems.
- Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills across multiple teams.
