Ace Hardware Northeast is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Hardware Manager to lead and oversee the hardware department in our store. As the Hardware Manager, you will be responsible for managing inventory, training staff, ensuring exceptional customer service, and driving sales within the department. You will work closely with the Store Manager to ensure the department is well-stocked, organized, and running efficiently, while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Department Management:
- Lead and supervise the hardware department, ensuring that products are stocked, organized, and accessible to customers.
- Monitor and manage the daily operations of the department to ensure efficient workflow and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and implement merchandising strategies to maximize sales and promote featured products.
- Customer Service Excellence:
- Provide superior customer service by helping customers find the right tools, hardware, and solutions for their needs.
- Respond to customer inquiries, offering expert advice on products and their uses.
- Handle customer complaints or issues with professionalism, ensuring positive resolutions.
- Inventory & Stock Management:
- Oversee inventory levels, placing orders and managing stock to ensure products are always available for customers.
- Conduct regular stock counts, manage reordering, and ensure that stock is rotated regularly.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of products and negotiate favorable terms.
- Implement strategies to reduce shrinkage and manage inventory costs.
- Team Leadership & Training:
- Lead, train, and motivate hardware department staff, ensuring they are knowledgeable about products, sales techniques, and customer service best practices.
- Foster a positive team environment that encourages collaboration and a high level of performance.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to staff to improve product knowledge and sales skills.
- Sales & Budgeting:
- Drive sales growth in the hardware department by meeting or exceeding sales goals.
- Monitor sales trends and adjust inventory levels and product offerings accordingly.
- Assist in budgeting and cost control for the department, ensuring profitability without sacrificing customer service or product availability.
- Product Knowledge & Training:
- Stay up-to-date on the latest hardware trends, products, and technologies, and ensure the team is knowledgeable about new inventory.
- Maintain a high level of product knowledge across a wide range of categories, including hand tools, power tools, paint, plumbing, electrical, and more.
- Store Operations Support:
- Assist with the implementation of store promotions and seasonal sales.
- Work with the Store Manager to ensure that all department procedures and policies are followed.
- Participate in the development of sales and marketing initiatives for the hardware department.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- At least 3-5 years of experience in retail, with 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of hardware, tools, and home improvement products. Experience with hardware retailers is a plus.
- Proven leadership skills with experience in managing a team, providing training, and motivating staff to achieve goals.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient with basic computer programs and retail point-of-sale systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a retail environment that involves walking, bending, and lifting products.
