Summary:
The Primary/Preschool Assistant Guide position at Ithaca Montessori School (IMS) requires love, patience, and respect for children ages 3-6 years old. IMS is looking for individuals interested in the field of early childhood education as a career, with a willingness to learn about and implement the Montessori philosophy. Hours: M-F: 11:00 am - 5:45 pm
Start Date: Immediately
Rate of Pay: It is determined by education and experience.
All necessary paperwork and background clearance checks must be completed prior to the start date.
Basic Qualifications:
Education and Experience to meet the New York State Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) Assistant Teacher Requirements as follows:
- A minimum of a High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent
- One year of experience working with children less than 13 years old
- Educational background in Early Childhood, Child Development, or related field is preferred
- Pass all background checks required by OCFS
- Meets school/state health requirements, including TB test, immunizations, and physical.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Able to squat, stand, and sit for 2 hours or more at a time.
Duties & Responsibilities:
General:
- Arrive promptly and establish reliability through excellent attendance.
- Understand and promote the school’s mission, purposes, objectives, and policies to families in a positive and supportive manner.
- Be responsible for the welfare, safety, and educational achievements of students.
- Support children in the toileting process and change soiled diapers.
- Attend meetings and professional development requirements.
- Maintaining an ongoing 30 hours of professional development every two years in accordance with OCFS regulations.
- Assist in the completion and maintenance of all records, reports, evaluations, and student records promptly.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures in the IMS Employee Handbook.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
Safety:
- Understand and ensure compliance with all OCFS regulations, including ensuring that children are supervised at all times and that proper ratios of staff to children are maintained.
- Ensure children are released only to individuals designated as authorized transporters.
Curriculum:
- Assist in the preparation of the classroom and after-school environment.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, orderly, and attractive Montessori environment.
- Ongoing willingness to learn and apply Montessori philosophy.
- Support the Lead Guide in maintaining the classroom and after-school space and creating activities for the children.
- Assist in tone-keeping and classroom management.
- Perform cleaning and classroom maintenance tasks as required.
Communications:
- Communicate any concerns regarding children to the Program Director.
- Communicate to colleagues and/or administration professionally, respectfully, and in a timely manner.
- Call to the attention of the Administration any concerns of the parents.
