Position Overview

Position Overview

The Controller will lead the accounting team and collaborate closely with project management, operations, and external partners (banks, auditors, and bonding agents).
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
- Maintain accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Oversee the general ledger, month-end close, and reconciliation processes.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for leadership and stakeholders in coordination with Eastern Companies’ Accounting team.
- Ensure proper revenue recognition on construction contracts (percentage of completion, WIP schedules).
- Establish and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including tax filings, labor laws, and licensing in coordination with Eastern Companies’ Accounting.
- Coordinate with outside CPAs on annual audits and tax preparation in coordination with Eastern Companies’ Accounting.
- Maintain all corporate filings, renewals, and registrations.
- Work with project managers to ensure job costs are accurately tracked and reported.
- Monitor labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and equipment allocations across all active jobs.
- Provide variance analyses between budget vs. actuals, including proactive cost control recommendations.
- Assist in forecasting cash flow and project profitability.
- Lead the company’s annual budgeting and reforecasting processes.
- Partner with leadership to support strategic planning initiatives.
- Develop financial models to evaluate profitability, overhead recovery, and return on investment for new initiatives.
- Prepare reports for bonding agents, bankers, and other financial institutions.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
- Define performance standards and support ongoing professional development.
- Build systems and workflows that scale with business growth.
- Work cross-functionally with operations, estimating, and executive management.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience; at least 5 in construction or project-based industries.
- Deep understanding of construction accounting, WIP schedules, and job cost control.
- Proficiency in ERP systems.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Serve as the financial backbone of the company with high integrity and attention to detail.
- Support growth and risk management through proactive financial analysis and controls.
- Provide visibility into the business through accurate, timely, and strategic reporting.
