GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs a wide range of working level technical law enforcement duties related to enforcing the laws, maintaining the peace, security, and rendering aid and related to protecting life and property of Ivins City and Santa Clara City residents.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the direct supervision of the Public Safety Sergeant and under the general supervision of the Public Safety Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None – this is not a supervisory position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. - Patrol and Traffic – Enforce all applicable City and State laws and ordinances by apprehending, citing, and arresting violators when appropriate; enforce traffic laws and regulations to assure safe and efficient traffic flow; conduct speed enforcement activities; initiate traffic stops and issue citations; investigate traffic accidents; enforce traffic and parking violations; direct traffic and assists motorists as needed.
- Calls for Assistance – Respond to calls for service and renders aid to distressed citizens by maintaining the peace, supplying information, and aiding in assisting the citizens as applicable.
- Reports – Complete detailed and accurate reports of daily activities, criminal cases, arrests, traffic accidents, and other cases as appropriate; present evidence and testimony in court and other hearings are required.
- Operation of Equipment – Operate police vehicle and other department equipment in a manner that will maximize its life span and will provide the utmost safety for the officer and the public; maintain visible presence to deter and prevent crime.
- Public Relations – Perform ongoing public relations to enhance the image of the Ivins City Public Safety Department within the community; as assigned, represent the department by speaking at public meetings and schools to educate and inform citizens; present a professional image in both appearance and demeanor.
- Other Law Enforcement Duties – Attend court and give testimony as needed to related circumstances of arrests and various enforcement activities.
- Investigations – Investigate criminal activity; gather evidence; interview victims, witnesses and suspects; take appropriate action to solve cases and to bring suspects before proper judicial process; serve warrants, processes, notices, summons, and subpoenas and keeps records of disposition.
- Animal Control – Perform general animal control duties as back up to Ivins City Animal Control Officer including citation, complaints, shelter operations and maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Special Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 year of age and a U.S. citizen
- Must have valid Utah Driver’s License.
- Must either reside in Ivins City or Santa Clara or within 30 miles of said cities’ limit.
Education and Experience:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have current Peace Officer Certification/Special Function Officer from Utah P.O.S.T. or certify within 12 months of hire.
- Must complete Ivins City Field Training within 6 months.
- Must have CPR Certification and First Aid Training.
Knowledge:
- Law Enforcement – Knowledge of law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment; knowledge of methods of arrest; knowledge of practices and procedures for emergency vehicle operation; knowledge of investigative procedures and practices; knowledge of legal liabilities associated with arrest and law enforcement, courtroom procedures and laws of evidence.
