Position Overview:
The Financial Accountant will play a key role in managing the company’s accounting functions and supporting our financial operations and compliance initiatives. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance & CFO, this position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of general accounting principles and a focus on accuracy and compliance. This is a hands-on position with opportunities for career growth within the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Accounting
- Prepare and maintain general ledger entries in compliance with GAAP.
- Reconcile bank accounts and other accounts as needed.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing, including journal entries and financial analysis.
- Prepare and submit B&O and Sales Tax filings.
- Handle monthly and quarterly payroll filings and remittances.
- Maintain and update job costing files for construction projects.
- State Prequalification Filings
- Prepare and submit required state prequalification filings as necessary.
- Financial Reporting
- Assist in the preparation of internal financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze financial data to provide actionable insights for decision-making.
- Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with all accounting and payroll regulations.
- Maintain accurate and organized records to support audits and regulatory reporting.
- Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Work closely with the VP of Finance & CFO to support financial analysis and strategic planning.
- Collaborate with the VP of Administration to assist with office duties as required.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting and payroll processes.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Foundation, QuickBooks, Sage) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Preferred:
- Experience in construction or project-based accounting.
- Familiarity with Department of Transportation Prequalification procedures and filings.
- Proven ability to enhance financial processes and leverage technology.
- CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
