What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Speaking and Workplace Communication Instructor position at Ivy Tech Community College?
Ivy Tech seeks qualified adjunct faculty to supplement both the Fundamentals of Public Speaking course and the Workplace Communication course instruction needs of our students at the Evansville, IN campus. The public speaking instructor role will introduce the fundamental concepts and skills for effective public speaking and will include audience analysis, outlining, research, delivery, critical listening and evaluation, presentational aids, and use of appropriate technology. The workplace communication instructor role will focus on developing workplace communication skills for students. Other areas of focus include examining and practicing strategies for listening critically, building functional interpersonal work relationships, communicating in groups, and enhancing self-expression.
Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the Department of Communication.

Major Responsibilities:
Candidates considered for adjunct positions under this posting must be able to provide instruction in person at the Evansville, IN campus.
PROGRAM OPERATION:
- Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes.
- Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements.
- Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook.
- Submits requested information within established timelines.
STUDENTS:
- Is available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions/provide assistance.
- Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program coordinator to resolve issues.
INSTRUCTION:
- Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s). Use technology such as Canvas, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate.
- In event of emergency absence, notifies program/department chair.
- Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views. Promote same as an integral part of one's work.

Hiring Range:
- $44.00 per contact hour (approximately $2,112 per 8-week course)
Work Hours:
- Adjunct Faculty positions typically begin at the start of semesters. For this role the classes will run in the afternoon and evening.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Possesses a master's degree, or higher, in speech or communication or possesses a master's degree, or higher, with 18 graduate semester credit hours in speech or communication.
- Must be located to teach in-person at the Evansville, IN campus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience teaching in a post-secondary setting.
