Position Summary
The Cabinet Maker is responsible for building high-quality custom cabinets according to shop drawings, client specifications, and company standards. This role requires skilled craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to operate woodworking tools and machinery safely and efficiently. The Cabinet Maker plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and accurate completion of cabinetry projects.
Key Responsibilities
Cabinet Construction
- Build custom cabinets, including assembling, sanding, and finishing components, according to shop drawings and specifications.
- Cut, shape, and join wood and wood-based materials using hand tools, power tools, and machinery.
- Install hardware, such as hinges, drawer slides, and handles, to complete cabinet assemblies.
Quality Assurance
- Inspect materials and completed cabinets for accuracy, quality, and adherence to project specifications.
- Identify and resolve issues in construction or materials to maintain high craftsmanship standards.
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards before moving to the next stage of production.
Tool and Equipment Operation
- Operate and maintain woodworking machinery, such as saws, routers, planers, and sanders.
- Follow safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with the Operations Manager and other team members to meet project deadlines.
- Communicate any material shortages, design discrepancies, or other challenges to the Operations Manager immediately.
- Assist with training new team members or apprentices as needed.
Shop Maintenance and Organization
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote efficiency and safety.
- Assist in organizing and managing inventory of materials and supplies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a cabinet maker or in a similar woodworking role.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting shop drawings and blueprints.
- Skilled in using a variety of woodworking tools including tape measures and machinery.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with custom cabinetry or millwork.
- Knowledge of different wood species and their characteristics.
- Familiarity with finishing techniques, including staining and painting.
