Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing electrical construction projects.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Highly involved with the bid process, often contributing information and recommendations on the bid itself
- Proactively assists PMs with managing electrical construction projects from winning the bid to completing the work
- Helps establish project objectives, and lays out the project plan in accordance with contract specifications
- Delegates work on behalf of the PM when directed
- Works directly with customers and other people to facilitate project activities
- Monitors and tracks projects; assists PMs with supporting field personnel
- Participates in project meetings and attends strategy sessions
- Works with contract administrators, PMs, and field personnel routinely
- Identifies, applies for, obtains and maintains all applicable permits as directed by PM
- Works with subcontractors on work that cannot be self-performed
- Vets and makes recommendations on subcontractors as directed
- Reviews and approves submittals from subcontractors
- Develops detailed project timelines to help ensure that all work will be done on time, inspected and delivered to the customer as final when anticipated
- Works closely with the Project Accountant and Project Manager to ensure project billing aligns with progress on the project, customer expectations and changes that occur at the last minute
- Continuously reviews costs to ensure that projects remain profitable and learns about the implications of cost overruns from the Project Accountant and the Project Managers
- Consults with PM on all issues that could potentially result in legal action
- Anticipates problems before they occur and collaborates with PM to resolve them
- Attends and participates in job site meetings
- Documents decisions and agreements, project WIP, design changes, customer specifications, the accomplishment of goals
- At the direction and under the guidance of the PM, communicates with crews, foremen, leaders, customers, and the general public; keeps team members accurately informed
- Interprets and explains plans and contract terms to staff, crews, and customers
- Effectively manages client expectations; communicates delays promptly
- When appropriate, says "no" and set appropriate boundaries to ensure that we operate within the scope of work as agreed
- If work outside the agreed-upon scope is desired, communicate the need for additional documentation and any associated costs with the changes
- Provides reports on work progress, costs, and scheduling; reports overruns as soon as possible
- Visits job sites to better understand standards, quality, and safety requirements
- Participates in the timely Close Out of projects
- Helps verify "punch lists" are completed toward the end of a project
- Actively serves as an ambassador of J.F. Electric in the community; attends construction industry events
- Other duties as assigned or prudent
- Cross-train in all facets of the Division, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and grow in responsibility and scope over time.
The person in this role will uphold the culture of J.F. Electric, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on J.F. Electric or client premises or at J.F. Electric sponsored events.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred
- Experience in lieu of a degree will be considered but is at the discretion of leadership
- Strong leadership and influencing potential required
- Ability to adhere to a schedule and reliably show up for all scheduled shifts on time
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Computer proficiency and the ability to learn Prima Vera within 90 days is essential
Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed both in an office and on job sites, inside and outside; exposed to extreme heat and cold, as well as multiple weather conditions
- Sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crawl, climb or balance may be required to perform inspections on job sites
- Must be able to identify colors and distinguish textures both close up and at a distance
