Overview
Coordinate the activities of the Safety Professionals and Develop Programs in support of J.F. Electric operations
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to a team of Safety Representatives
- Establish and manage the goals and objectives for accomplishing safety program work and insure proper utilization of personnel; delegate functional activities to subordinates and establish supervisory schedules and responsibilities
- Manage relationships with all J.F. Electric departments and teams
- Proposal and contract development support as it relates to safety and emergency plans
- Comply with, enforce and support J.F. Electric safety philosophy, safety training, safety manual and OSHA
Ensure all personnel use / wear all appropriate personal protective equipment and tools
Foster an environment where safety is expected and correct unsafe behavior consistentlyDiligently monitor safety in all situations, proactively work to prevent accidents and injuries at all timesStop work that is being performed in an unsafe mannerTake corrective / disciplinary action for repetitive safety violationsReinforce safety rules and the importance of everyone going home safely in meetings, toolbox talks, JSAs, and other opportunitiesPlan, organize, and deliver routine training on safety and emergency preparedness, business continuity, and disaster recoveryUpdate, adapt, and continuously improve Company Safety Manual(s) including all associated safety policies, procedures, and programsDevelop and maintain a thorough knowledge of all related OSHA regulations and compliance requirements for these regulationsResearch changes in OSHA regulations and prepares programs as required for employee training & customer requirementsRespond to Company personnel on safety-related concerns, questions, and issuesAct as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for safety inquiries from OSHA, owner, General Contractors, or job-site personnelWork with leadership to understand safety initiatives, goals, and outcomesReport results and upcoming plans to leadership on a monthly basis
Confidently develop and administer a long term plan to reduce the risk for J.F. ElectricPrepare safety-related pre-qualification documentsConduct job-site visits, safety inspections, safety meetings, etc. in accordance with J.F. Electric guidelines (which will be established by the Director of Safety in conjunction with the VP of Safety)Ensure that reported safety issues and concerns related to job-site equipment, tools, and personnel are answered by Safety or the respective Operations / Project ManagerEnsure that all new union employee safety orientations and drug screenings are conductedWork closely with Claims Manager to collect proper documentation for injuries, property claims, motor vehicle accidents, and OSHA 300 logsGuide or perform post-accident investigations, generate root cause responses, and translate findings into preventative training to reduce or eliminate the risk of repeated accidentsContact and / or subcontract a professional safety consulting firm for specific safety concerns, requirements, or regulations, when requiredResearch, specify and approve all safety-related equipment purchasedEnsure that all safety-related equipment is inventoried, assigned, and tracked.Coordinate or perform safety equipment inspections, testing, and certification as required by regulation or policy
Provide continued support and research related to specific or unusual safety issuesResponsible for other duties so assignedCross-train in all facets of the Division, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and grow in responsibility and scope over time.The person in this role will uphold the culture of J.F. Electric, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on J.F. Electric or client premises or at J.F. Electric sponsored events.
Requirements / Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Safety and Health, EH&S Management, or a related field preferred or equivalent work experience. Master's degree a plus. CUSA or CUSP is preferred.Experience as a Lineman a plus. Electric utility construction background required.5 years of leadership / managerial experience within Safety and Health is required.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated training delivery skillsStrong knowledge and understanding of OSHA and applicable federal, state, local, and company safety regulationsOSHA 500 certification would demonstrate this
Ability to build trust across diverse teams and divisions, and influence even without direct authorityExpertise in regulatory communications including OSHA investigations.Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with determination and tactSense of responsibility and ownership for the projectExcellent customer service skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, OSHA requirements, and safety manualsAbility to speak effectively with customers and employees of the companyRequired to have visual and sensory acuity to observe facilities or structures, and operate equipment and vehiclesMust have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to drive a motorized vehicleMust be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.Travel Requirements :
