The Senior Accountant serves as primary support for the general ledger accounting team and point of contact to divisional finance and operational groups. Attention to detail and organizational skills are critically important for success.
This position will emphasize accounting acumen, general ledger detail, reporting accuracy, process improvement, set up of new communities, participation in the allocation process, presentation in meetings and training sessions, training of new hires and special projects. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform the monthly close and financial review process, including various journal entries, analysis and reports, and ensuring timely and accurate resolution of issues.
Perform various account analysis, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement packages outside of the monthly close process.
Review bi-monthly check run cycles for adequate support and approval.
Prepare, review and analyze joint venture activity and prepare monthly financial statements, if applicable.
Support of divisional operations teams, including adhoc reporting and information gathering.
Collaborate with internal finance teams to support budget and forecast questions related to accounting processes
Assist in the management and calculation of high-level cost accounting functions (i.e. land, construction and warranty allocable costs).
Assist with the management and completion of internal/external audits and tax returns.
Assist with identification and implementation of process improvement initiatives to streamline and standardize work flows within the accounting group.
Ensure timely and accurate execution of key cross functional responsibilities, if assigned.
Develop and demonstrate a mastery of both the “mechanical” and “theoretical” part of the accounting responsibilities.
Special projects, as necessary, and ad hoc financial reporting and requests.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
Combination of 5 years prior accounting/finance experience required.
CPA or MBA or pursuit thereof a plus
Public accounting experience, minimum of 2 years, a plus
Prior homebuilder, construction or real estate experience a plus
Prior hands-on experience with J. D. Edwards Enterprise-One and OneStream systems a plus
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel skills
