Associate Director: Grants, Community Engagement, & Communications
Reports to: President

Work hour expectations: work events outside of office hours; reply and correspond outside of office hours to client and management needs via email, Slack, and text.
Key Responsibilities: Client
- Manages a minimum of 5-8 client accounts
- Manages Staff to performance indicators
- Helps to set the direction for the team and encourages growth and accountability
- Assists the president with growth of client accounts in various markets related to our service pillars
- Executes GTMD and EOY campaigns for clients
- Works directly with staff to create and execute strategies
- Identifies likely donors for clients, and develops relationships with representatives
- Initiates work with client to provide reporting, calendaring and other evaluation/compliance related tasks
- Attends meetings, events and other related activities
- Works to develop a relationship with clients through e-mail, calls, and outreach meetings
Key Responsibilities: Grants
- Provide development strategy and plans for clients
- Identify grant arguments for each funder and assign work to grant writers based on budget and prior approval of client/JMA director
- Work with grant writers and client for input and edits on grants
- Create and review the budgets for projects or programs. Responsible for attaining the most current and approved budget (and attachments) to be sent with any grant
- Compile, write and edit grant applications, letters and queries exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling. Responsible for editing all work before passed on for final edits, approval
- Develop individual grant proposals aligning with each grant-making organization’s preferences and follow exactly each funders guidelines
- Ensure that JMA staff maintains contact with funders during their review of a submitted grant or request as directed
- Manage the process of providing grant and progress reports
Key Responsibilities: Individual Giving/Community Engagement
- Work with clients to identify prospective donors related to individual giving
- Provide strategy and expertise to the client and internal team, with ability to rate and perform wealth screens
- Introduce donors/donor prospects to clients; 1:1 meetings
- Devise and write individual development plans
- Execute donor solicitations and communications
- Work with Clients to define, plan and prioritize annual fund goals
- Create giving table
- Review and advise/recommend on all annual fundraising strategies, including events
- Create annual campaign calendars, timelines, budgets
- After (historical) review of fundraising results, determine which fundraising activities will be most effective for a client
- Write and compile fundraising reports
- Create and perform donor retention and recapture activities
- Work with JMA President and Directors to strategize and execute campaigns and sponsorship efforts
- Create, plan and execute annual campaign appeals – electronic and print
- Identify client’s unique audience(s)
Key Responsibilities: Community Engagement - Events/Communications
- Assist with the planning, implementation, and execution of client fundraising and events
- Contract negotiation and review – venues, entertainment, F/B
- Take a leadership role with vendors and teams, delegate to direct reports to support event needs
- Coordinates mass mailing projects of solicitation letters
- Handles logistics including silent auction, volunteers, venue, food, registration, and entertainment options for events ranging in size from small donor receptions to large galas and luncheons.
- Create/assign event collateral including sponsorship packets, invitations, and more
- Corporate and business sponsorship
- Secure auction/game items
- Provides expertise to the client and internal team on event strategy and implementation
- Participates in client meetings
- Works with clients to achieve fundraising goals (sponsorship, guest registration and list management, program and more)
- Ensure assignments are completed on time
- Accurately tracks meeting and event expenditures
Experience/Qualifications
- 4 or 7 years of experience working with nonprofit organization(s); grant writing/fundraising experience preferred
- Experience in public sector writing and RFPs a plus
- 3 or more years of experience managing, and leading events preferred
- Background in grant work and individual giving and events
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Proven organizational skills including the ability to maintain data management systems, prioritize projects, meet multiple deadlines and work with teams
- Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated knowledge of statewide funders (corporate, foundations, civic)
- Provide expertise and contacts
- This role is firm management and requires time after hours to administrate and work
- This is a working Director role

- Bonuses are awarded to staff based on extraordinary work output, bringing in new clients and a recommendation from a manager. Additionally, awards of more ESST/PTO are/can be given in addition to or instead of a cash bonus.
- Overtime: (over 40 hours per week) paid at a rate of time and a half.
- Employee Safe and Sick Time (ESST) & Paid Time Off (PTO) – ESST/PTO will begin accruing upon hire. All employees will earn ESST/PTO at a rate of 0.0909 per hour worked. This equates to earning 1 hour of ESST/PTO for every 11 hours worked. Employees may choose to use their ESST/PTO award for mental or physical illness, treatment or preventative care; a family member’s mental or physical illness, treatment or preventative care; absence due to domestic abuse, sexual assault or stalking of the employee or a family member; death in an employee’s immediate family; closure of the employee’s workplace due to weather or public emergency or closure of a family member’s school or care facility due to weather or public emergency; when determined by a health authority or health care professional that the employee or a family member is at risk of infecting others with a communicable disease; vacation days; and holidays.

Healthcare in the amount of $500.00 per month for a family plan is available if you are the “primary” on your family plan ($500 per month = $6,000 per year for insurance).
