Summary

The Packaging Mechanic diagnoses packaging equipment problems, repairs minor and major breakdown of high-speed packaging equipment, sets up and installs all packaging equipment, performs preventative maintenance items, improves line efficiencies, and ensures all equipment is in safe working condition.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and maintain food packaging equipment, such as form-fill-seal machines, labelers, cartoners, case packers, and conveyors.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and minor electrical issues to ensure consistent line operation and product flow.
• Adjust machine settings to meet packaging specifications, including product size, weight, and labeling requirements.
• Ensure packaging operations meet food safety standards, including allergen control, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and HACCP protocols.
• Clean and sanitize packaging equipment regularly to meet hygiene and food safety regulations.
• Monitor packaging integrity, including seal quality, label accuracy, and proper coding (e.g., expiration dates).
• Collaborate with production and quality assurance teams to resolve issues and support continuous improvement.
• Document maintenance activities, equipment performance, and downtime incidents in compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
• Support efficient changeovers, ensuring machines are configured correctly for new product runs while minimizing waste and delays.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, adhering to plant safety and 5S principles.
  
  
  

Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

3 years related experience and/or training

Other Information

• Good knowledge of Computer Systems.
• Experience with troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and electronic Systems.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to balance multiple tasks, be flexible and work well under pressure.
• Ability to work in refrigerated and frozen environments.
