TITLE: HEAD TRACK COACH
LOCATION: J.S. RUSSELL MIDDLE SCHOOL
PAY: MONTHLY STIPEND BASED CONTRACT (MARCH - MAY)
START DATE: IMMEDIATELY
REPORTS TO: ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND/OR BUILDING PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Coaching Experience: Minimum of three years of successful coaching experience at the secondary level, with prior experience as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach preferred.
- Certification: Current or eligible First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Program Promotion: Strong commitment to advancing and supporting the school’s athletic programs.
- Education: Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree and valid teaching certification are preferred. A Collegiate Professional License is also desirable.
- Relevant Experience: Demonstrated success in coaching, preferably with experience in the specific sport assigned.
- Technical Skills: Proven ability through personal participation in the assigned sport.
- Collaboration: Strong skills in working effectively with both students and staff to foster a positive athletic environment.
- Passion for Athletics: Demonstrated enthusiasm and dedication to the assigned sport.
- Character: High standards of moral character and integrity.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: The candidate should possess a strong knowledge of middle school athletics, including district policies and league regulations. They must demonstrate exceptional leadership, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Promote Sportsmanship: Cultivate respect and positive behavior among athletes, coaches, spectators, and officials.
- Organize Practices: Plan and lead structured practice sessions to develop athletes’ skills, conditioning, and teamwork.
- Monitor Athlete Performance: Assess skills, track progress, and communicate performance updates to the head coach.
- Ensure Fitness & Safety: Verify athletes meet physical fitness and safety requirements before competition.
- Team Selection: Implement an evaluation process for team placement based on performance.
- Manage Equipment: Distribute, maintain, and store athletic equipment and uniforms.
- Supervise Games: Oversee athletes during home and away competitions, ensuring proper conduct and safety.
- Policy Compliance: Follow district, league, and Virginia High School League (VHSL) guidelines.
- Administrative Tasks: Manage team records, schedules, and communications using student databases and office software.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with the Athletic Director, administration, and staff to support athletic operations.
- Additional Duties: Complete other tasks as assigned by the Athletic Director, or Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Coaching contract stipend with compensation as approved by School Board policies and regulations.
