Why this job – ASSISTANT CONTROLLER/CONTROLLER:
Our client in the sporting/outdoor industry is looking to add an Assistant Controller/Controller to their team to oversee all aspects of accounting operations. This role reports directly to the organization's CFO and collaborates directly with various department heads. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong accounting foundation but is looking to gain exposure to a wide array of issues such as job costing, inventory, prepaids, sales, and more. Additionally, you'll also get to work on the FP&A side of things with financial reports, data analysis and budgets/forecasts for executive review.
This role is onsite in their offices in the Kalispell/Columbia Falls area. It's a tight-knit team that is extremely passionate about what they do. The CFO has a background in the Big 4 environment with a CPA and would be able to mentor the right person.
What You'll Actually Do:
- Collaborate with department leaders to manage the job costing side of the accounting operations
- Analyze the POS data to identify sales trends, peak hours, high-performing items, and unit profitability
- Assess inventory usage rates and compare them to sales data to identify potential discrepancies or inefficiencies
- Generate detailed reports to monitor revenue streams and ensure accurate tracking of cost of goods sold (COGS)
- Conduct test transactions during events to ensure optimal performance
To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Need:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3 years of accounting experience
- High-volume accounting experience required
- Experience with job costing is needed (food & beverage, retail, restaurant, construction experience, etc.)
- Advanced Excel required
- QuickBooks experience preferred
- Excellent communication skills – collaborating with leaders across multiple departments
- Willingness to learn and improve processes
Where and How Much:
- Target Compensation $90K – $110K discretionary bonus
- In-office – Kalispell / Columbia Falls offices
