What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outrider position at JACK Thistledown Racino?
Job Responsibilities:
The Outrider is responsible for the safety of all personnel on the track, particularly those mounted on horses, at all times. The Outrider enforces all rules and regulations established by JACK Thistledown Racino and the Ohio State Racing Commission. He/She will own, ride, and care for a stable of their own horses to be used as catch-horses in the event a horse is loose on the track.
Specific Duties:
- Must be mounted on horse at all times while on the racetrack
- Must be able to work closely and comfortably around racehorses
- Safely leads horses from the paddock to the starting gate
- Catches horses that get loose on race track
- Identifies and reports infractions and/or violations committed on race track
- Must maintain communication with EMTs, Stewards, Starter, Paddock Judge and other racing officials
- Clears and protects areas of racetrack during emergency situations
- Identify exercise riders unfit to be on a horse
- Maintain a stable of fit and healthy horses
Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain a License from the Ohio State Racing Commission
- Must have basic knowledge of applicable Ohio Revised Code and Administrative Rules outlined in Chapter 3769
- Must have superb riding ability
- Must have extensive experience working closely around racehorses
- Must be able to work quickly and efficiently in tight spaces
- Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must have strong organizational skills
- Must be team-oriented
- Must be able to work successfully with a variety of personality styles
- Must be able to perform various functions essential to racing operations
Experience
Required- 3 year(s): Industry experience
Education
Required- High School or better
