The Director for Student Support and Success oversees programs and services designed to enhance student achievement, retention, and overall well-being. Key responsibilities include managing tutoring as well as coordinating initiatives that address barriers to student success, such as financial literacy, mental health support, and career readiness. The director works closely with faculty, staff, and external partners to develop inclusive and equitable strategies that meet the diverse needs of the student population. Additionally, this role involves using data to assess program effectiveness, ensuring continuous improvement aligned with the college’s mission and goals. The position provides leadership for the integration of learning support programs and services with academic programs, student service initiatives and all Jackson College locations, including the College’s Correction Education Program. The position requires the ability to present confidently to both large and small groups, as well as work non-standard hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays, as necessary. Excellent technology skills required.
ESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIESincludethefollowing.Otherdutiesmaybe assigned.
- Overseedaily operationsfortheCenterfor Student Success,Accommodations andStudent Resources,theTestingLab,andStudentLifeincludingHarriet’sHubdepartments.Develop, direct, and monitor student support services initiatives year-round.
- Fiscalacuitytomanagebudgetsandsupervisegrant-fundedprograms,includingfederal and state grants.
- Ensure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the AmericanswithDisabilitiesAct,servingasthe504CoordinatorfortheCollege. Additionally, ensurecompliancewiththeFairHousingActforreviewandapprovalsofEmotionalSupport Animals.
- SuperviseAccommodationsandStudentResourcesCoordinator astheyworkwithstudents to assess accommodations and needs for on campus and/or off campus resources
- Evaluate disability documentation from qualified professionals and determine student specificaccommodationplansandconsultwithfaculty,navigators,andadministratorsfor implantation as needed. Co-coordinate summer bridge programs for students such as Ready, Set, Jet!
- Administrativeoversightofthecommunityreferralprocedure.
- Supervise the Supplemental Support Specialist who oversees the selection, staffing, and trainingofparaprofessionaltutors,professionaltutors,andstudenttutorsinaccordancewith credential and competencies requirements.
- SupervisetheCoordinatoroftheCenterforStudentSuccesswhomanagestheday-to-day operations of the Center.
- Institute aplan for students requesting accommodation.Develop a process to provide requiredcollegedepartments(i.e.InformationTechnology,Facilities)withadvancenoticeof accommodation needs on an ongoing basis.
- CoordinatestudentsupportservicesofferedbyallJCCentersincludingtheCorrections Education Program.
- Supervise Student Life Coordinator to provide oversight of Harriet’s Hub, the Student GovernmentAssociation(SGA),studentorganizations,andensurethesuccessfulexecution of campuswide student engagement through relevant student activities and events.
- Identify,analyzeandreportquantitativeandqualitativemeasurestoevaluateeffectiveness of student success initiatives and ensure continuous improvement in support of the College’s strategic agenda.Document processes used in operation in alignment with institutional quality initiatives.
- Utilizedatatoidentifythediverseneedsofstudentsanddevelopandimplementtailored strategies or programs to address these needs.
- Represent the College to the community with participation in local and state activities, committees, and in professional organizations.Develop and monitor processes for assessmentofstudentandcommunityneedsthatsupportstudentlearning(i.e.,programs, supplemental instruction, assistive technologies, software or support devices).
- Benchmarkbestpracticesandtechnologicaladvancementsinstudentsuccessmodels. Based upon research conducted, implement findings to enhance Center services.
- Participateinandprovideprofessionaldevelopmentopportunitiesforstaff,faculty,and administrators to increase knowledge, understanding and skill in working with at risk students.
- CollaboratewithvariousCollegedepartmentstofacilitatecampusinitiativesthatsupportthe successful integration of at-risk students into college life. Contribute to the creation and implementation of outreach programs to bolster student preparedness.
- Responsible for adhering to College policies, as well as understanding, supporting and activelydemonstratingtheCollege’sbeliefs,values,missionandvisionand agree to be evaluated by same.
- Responsible for understanding that this position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority(CSA)position. You must complete the annual Clery Act training, for and act as, a Campus Security Authority.

SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIESCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the College's policies, labor agreement and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees;planning,assigning,anddirectingwork;appraisingperformance;rewardingand disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Directly supervises: All staff in the Center for Student Success, including the department coordinator, Student Accommodations and Resource Coordinator, Support Specialist, and SupplementalSupportSpecialist;TestingLabCoordinator;andtheStudentLifeCoordinator. Provides supervision of adjunct faculty members working in the Center in collaboration with faculty supervisor.

EducationandExperience
