JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician
DEPARTMENT: Facilities Services
JOB SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various systems and equipment within the facility. This includes performing routine maintenance tasks, diagnosing issues, and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in preventing breakdowns and supporting production operations by ensuring all equipment is in optimal working condition.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoots electrical, electronic (including analog and digital), pneumatic, and mechanical equipment and systems
- Performs operator and preventive maintenance, as specified by manufacturers, on equipment and systems including electrical, electronic, pneumatic, mechanical; varies PM interval as dictated by monitored failure rate
- Performs simple, as well as complete repairs of equipment and systems, included by not limited to cooling systems, water towers, centrifugal pumps and motors and air compressors; inspects and checks sterilizers, oxygen equipment and other combustible equipment used in a hospital; performs repairs and maintenance on hospital beds
- Researches, interprets, and applies local, as well as manufacturers’ technical data; read and interprets engineer drawings, blueprints, schematic drawings, and maintenance manuals to locate sources of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical problems
- Maintains appropriate work records for compliance with requirements imposed by such entities including, but not limited to, The Joint Commission, Office of Statewide Healthcare Planning and Development, and National Fire Protection Agency
- Develops and maintains excellent customer service traits
- Coordinates with local utility companies for utility service needs
- Provides training to staff in the use of facilities and utilities systems (i.e.. fire drills, mock code responses)
- Monitors air conditioning, heating, ventilation, airflow, and pneumatic tube systems and initiates corrective action as necessary
- Rotates through assignments requiring the regulation of boilers; observing meters and gauges to determine operating condition of boiler room equipment; routine checks for water, gas, and combustible air leaks
- Operates and performs regular checks to maintain and ensure adequate performance of emergency generators
- Responds promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair needs.
- Conducts inspections to identifies potential equipment failures and performs repairs as necessary.
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment and ensures all tools and equipment are properly maintained.
- Works safely in accordance with all safety standards and company policies.
- Assists with the installation and maintenance of new machinery or systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience as a Maintenance Technician or in a similar role
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair various types of machinery and equipment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks, including the ability to lift up to 80 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Certification in maintenance-related fields (e.g., HVAC, mechanical, electrical) is preferred but not required.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
Working Conditions:
- Working hours may vary, including weekends or holidays depending on operational needs.
- May require emergency on-call support outside regular business hours.
Physical Demands:
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 80 lbs as needed, including tools, equipment, and materials.
- Standing & Walking: Ability to stand or walk for extended periods up to 8 hours during the workday, including walking on various surfaces (e.g., concrete floors, stairs, uneven terrain).
- Bending, Stooping & Kneeling: Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching to inspect or repair machinery, plumbing, or equipment at various heights and positions.
- Climbing: Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or stairs to access equipment or perform repairs in high places up to 25 feet.
- Reaching: Ability to reach overhead or in tight spaces to access equipment and machinery.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers for operating hand tools, power tools, and other machinery safely and efficiently.
- Carrying & Handling Materials: Ability to carry and maneuver materials such as parts, tools, and equipment, sometimes requiring sustained lifting or movement.
- Pushing & Pulling: Ability to push and pull carts, machinery, or equipment weighing up to 300 lbs, often requiring significant force and coordination.
- Coordination: Ability to perform tasks that require hand-eye coordination, such as handling small components, using power tools, or performing fine adjustments.
- Work in Confined Spaces: Ability to work in confined or restricted spaces (e.g., attics, crawl spaces, machine rooms) while maintaining proper safety protocols.
- Work in Varying Environmental Conditions: Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures (hot or cold), humidity, noise, dust, or exposure to chemicals. Proper protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ability to wear necessary PPE such as safety goggles, hearing protection, gloves, respiratory masks, and other gear for safety during maintenance tasks.
