Job Summary:
Responsible for greeting and assisting patients in the Medical Clinic reception area. Administers patient appointments and maintains patient records. Answers multi-line telephone using departmental procedures in routing and transferring calls.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
- Personal Job-Related Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional customer service awareness.
- Licensure, Registry or Certification: None required
- Experience:
- Prior Work Experience: One year experience in medical setting preferred.
- Technical Training: Current CPR Certification.
- Physical and Mental Requirements: Requires extending periods of sitting and lifting of items to a weight of 40 pounds. The ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instructions or directions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RECEPTIONIST:
A. Performs receptionist duties:
- Answers and relays all calls to the appropriate department or individual.
- Greets patients professionally on arrival and determines their status or appointment times.
- Responsible for maintaining schedules and checking in/out patients.
- Scans driver’s license and insurance cards.
- Obtains appropriate intake forms
- Verifies insurance coverage and demographics.
- Verifies if balance on the account is patient responsibility and collect upon check-in.
- Posts deposits on daily logs in accordance with the JMCE Internal Control Procedure Policy.
- Opens and closes the clinic as required.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:
A. Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters daily.
B. Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive customer relations atmosphere. Interacts with patients, co-workers and medical staff in a friendly and professional manner to promote a positive customer service environment.
C. Follows safety and infection control policies and guidelines for the Hospital District.
D. Maintains a proper customer service attitude in contacts with patients, visitors, and other staff members and respects the privacy of patients in all contacts.
E. Monitors the need for quality improvements and participates in the Hospital District Quality Improvement Program.
F. Meets applicable JCAHO/Medicare Standards.
G. Adheres to the Personnel Policies as set forth by Jackson County Hospital District.
H. Adheres to Dress Code as established by Clinic.
I. Follows Safety and Infection Control policies and guidelines for the Hospital.
J. Respect the privacy of patients’ needs in all contacts.
K. Interacts with patients, family members, Medical Staff members, and other department managers on a continuous basis.
L. Follows aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials.
M. Other duties as assigned or required.
