Position Summary:
The Chaplain is responsible for counseling and ministering to patients, and members of their families, for conducting worship services and planning devotional activities. Emphasis of the work is in assisting patients distraught due to illness, family members who are bereaved who need guidance in achieving successful return to normal activity. Duties require the exercise of considerable knowledge of human behavior, and personality deviations which precipitate criminal acts.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist the Coordinator, Pastoral Care in providing a quality program of pastoral care to patients, their families and staff. Patient/family visitation: a)Visits patients and their families at the bedside)Ministers to the patient as appropriate, assisting the patient to mobilize the resources of faith)Offers the resources of prayer, counseling and the rituals and sacraments of the church, as appropriate. Worship's)Conduct services of worship in the chapel for patients, families and staff)Assist Coordinator with other programs of worship, as needed. Staff consultant and counseling's)Available to staff to discuss religious needs or issues of patients)Participate whenever possible in treatment planning for patients)Assists staff members in coping with feelings associated with patient care. Continuing education (will be expected to periodically participate in the following)Special seminars and conferences related to hospital chaplaincy)Hospital management courses)Clinical pastoral education courses or their equivalent. Accountability) The chaplain has an accountability to the patient, the hospital and the church. Conflict resolution: a)In the event of any potential conflicts or problems, the appropriate church officials will be contacted. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Experience:
Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience.
Education:
Graduation from a divinity or sacred theology college and endorsement as an ordained clergyman by a recognized religious faith or denomination is required.
License Certification:
Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
Knowledge Skill Abilities:
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Skill in monitoring/assessing the performance to make improvements or take corrective action. Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs. Ability to establish goals and objectives. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Physical Demands:
Job function is sedentary in nature and requires sitting for extended periods of time. Function may require frequent standing or walking. Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
